We thank thee for

Help us to serve thee
all our days.
The 4-Way Test

Of the things we
think, say, or do:

Is it the truth?

Is it fair to all concerned?

Will it build goodwill
and better friendships?

Will it be beneficial
to all concerned?
Special Thank You to Rotarian David Reid and Rotarian Mark Macfee for providing printed copies of the weekly newsletter for members and guests to read at the tables.
Please feel free to take a copy with you after the meeting.

Ordering Breakfast on Wednesday?

Due to the GT Yacht Club now open to the public for breakfast, Club Members are being asked to place their breakfast orders with the wait staff at the register by the coffee station. This will not only speed the ordering process but you will receive your meal faster. In addition, if the water jug at your table needs a refill, kindly have someone bring it to the coffee station for a top up.

The management of GTYC thanks you for your assistance

Rotary International Celebrates 109 Years
Submitted by Director Gina, Communications and courtesy of nj.com news article

On February 23, 1905, Rotary was founded in Chicago by Paul Harris. Today there are more than 1.2 million men and women in 33,000 clubs in more than 200 countries throughout the world united by the Rotary motto, “Service Above Self.”

Rotary’s commitment to humanitarian service is evidence in virtually every corner of the world. Whether it’s building homes in Equator, donating bikes through Pedals for Progress, helping typhoon victims in the Philippines, providing unprecedented educational opportunities for girls and young women in countries like Afghanistan, or building playgrounds and helping the needy in the local community, Rotary clubs work at the grassroots level both locally and internationally.

Rotary promotes peace and understanding by addressing the underlying causes of conflict and violence, such as poverty, illiteracy, hunger, and disease. In 1988, Rotary partnered with WHO, CDC, and UNICEF to launch the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. The world is almost polio free thanks to these united efforts.

Engage Rotary - Change Lives!
Avenues of Service
Submitted by VP Christine

One of the tenets of Rotary International are the six areas of focus. Here are some interesting facts from Rotary International on why these areas of focus are so important.

PROMOTING PEACE
Today, 42 million people are displaced by armed conflict or persecution. Through our partnerships with several leading universities, Rotary Peace Fellows develop the skills to strengthen peace efforts, train local leaders to prevent and mediate conflict, and support long-term peace building in areas affected by conflict. We provide up to 100 peace fellowships per year at Rotary Peace Centers.

FIGHTING DISEASE
More than 100 million people are pushed into poverty each year because of medical costs. We aim to improve and expand access to low-cost and free health care in underdeveloped areas. Our members educate and mobilize communities to help prevent the spread of major diseases such as polio, HIV/AIDS, and malaria. Many of our projects ensure that medical training facilities are located where the workforce lives.

PROVIDING CLEAN WATER
More than 2.5 billion people lack access to adequate sanitation facilities. At least 3,000 children die each day from diarrheal diseases caused by unsafe water. Our projects give communities the ability to develop and maintain sustainable water and sanitation systems and support studies related to water and sanitation.

SAVING MOTHERS AND CHILDREN
At least 7 million children under the age of five die each year due to malnutrition, poor health care, and inadequate sanitation. To help reduce this rate, we provide immunizations and antibiotics to babies, improve access to essential medical services, and support trained health care providers for mothers and their children. Our projects ensure sustainability by empowering the local community to take ownership of health care training programs.

SUPPORTING EDUCATION
Sixty-seven million children worldwide have no access to education and more than 775 million people over the age of 15 are illiterate. Our goal is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy.

GROWING LOCAL ECONOMIES
Nearly 1.4 billion employed people live on less than $1.25 a day. We carry out service projects that enhance economic and community development and develop opportunities for decent and productive work for young and old. We also help strengthen local entrepreneurs and community leaders, particularly women, in impoverished communities.

This Week's Meeting: Dr. Scott David

Topic: Anti-Aging - from the Da Vinci Centre for Wellness and Alternative Therapies

The aging process begins after the age of 30. Each year, our hormone levels steadily decline, leading to increased risk of cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, diabetes, arthritis, increased body fat, decreased lean muscle mass, and more.

Dr. Scott David and the Davinci Staff work with patients to treat the trajectory of the individual's health, ultimately preventing and/or delaying age-related diseases. Patients work with our staff to develop treatment plans that work with their individual lifestyles in order to achieve success.

Patients receive personalized attention and care to make sure all their questions are addressed. Unlike typical medical practices today that spends 5-10 minutes with patients, Our team spend approximately 30-60 minutes with patients during each visit.

Dr. David specializes in bio-identical hormone restoration therapy, weight loss management, testosterone deficiencies, adult growth hormone deficiencies, and anti-aging medicine.

In alliance with some of the top medical professionals on Grand Cayman, Dr. David & The Davinci Wellness Team offer patients comprehensive medical, nutritional, massage, chiropractic, acupuncture and cosmetic procedures to look and feel their best from the inside out.

What the Prez Sez...
A Little Help, Please?
Submitted by President J.D. Mosley-Matchett

The club's incoming Communications Chair (Martha) needs some help to continue spreading the good news about Rotary Sunrise.

You don't have to be a brilliant journalist. In fact, she'd love someone who already posts regularly on Facebook to just spend a couple more minutes keeping the Sunrise Facebook pages updated.

It's just a couple more minutes doing something you already do. Not a hard task, but yet another example of how many hands make light work...and keep everyone engaged in the good work of the club.

Perhaps you travel a lot and can't commit to regular committee meetings. Well, updating the Facebook pages doesn't even require any "face time" with the rest of the committee. You could even simply make updates based on key information you'll find each week in the newsletter.

And speaking of the newsletter, it would really help Martha (who is juggling a new job along with her current Community Service and Fellowship duties) to have some members volunteer to provide a monthly update on some Rotary topic that interests you. Even a monthly column would be helpful to lighten her load.

In a club of more than 70 members, no one should feel overwhelmed or anxious if we all pitch in to help.

And if you aren't helping...why not? If you can send e-mail, you can contribute to the club's communication efforts.

(By the way, membership on some other committee is NOT a valid excuse! We're only asking for just a few minutes of your time once a week.)

Yes, Secretary-Elect Gina is a hard communication act to follow. But she'll have her hands full with secretarial duties as of July 1st.

So now is the time to begin easing Martha's mind by offering your support and assistance.

After all, many hands reaching out to help really should be what Rotary Sunrise represents.
Casino Night - Prizes and Sold Tickets
Submitted by Director Gina, Fundraising Committee Member

Only 9 more days until Casino Night on Saturday, March 1! Have you sold your 4 tickets to the event? If not, start talking it up and get them sold as funds will need to be submitted shortly.

Remember to bring you unsold tickets with you to the meeting as there may be other Rotarians looking to acquire more tickets if they have buyers. In the same regard, if you have sold all your tickets please make sure you have your cash or cheques to hand into PE Kim or IPP Tony.

Also, if you have prize donations for the event please bring them so the Fundraising committee can start to inventory the prize selection available. There will be a brief Fundraising meeting following the club meeting to catch everyone up to speed on the tasks for the event. If you would like to sit in you are more than welcome.

Thank you for everyone's effort to help make this Fundraising event a success for our club.

Discover the World of Rotary
Submitted by VP/Director Christine Mathews, Membership Committee

Seasoned Rotarians, red badge Rotarians and members-in-waiting all gathered to Discover The World of Rotary and enjoy fellowship with a pot-luck dinner last Thursday night at the home of VP Christine and Rotarian Geoff.

After a welcome cocktail the group got down to the business of the evening with an interactive presentation by VP Christine on Rotary International and Sunrise basics. After and interlude for dinner the group settled in for the truly serious business of the evening – Rotary Jeopardy. At the end of the evening there was a virtual tie between the “gold” team and the “red” team and everyone had enhanced their Rotary knowledge. Our red badgers and members- in-waiting have also been able to check off an item on the list of items they need to do to advance to their blue badge.

Thanks to everyone who attended and contributed to the evening and a special thank you to Director Gina for her talk on the Sunrise website.
ClubRunner Training Completed for February
Submitted by Communications Director Gina

Thank you to the 14 members who participated in the two ClubRunner basic training sessions held this month. Of the 14 participants 6 were Rotaractors from RCGC. Education within our own club and support for our Rotaract clubs are an important element that will help to strengthen club administration as well as enhance membership knowledge of features available.

The next training session will be held in a few weeks time and will be an advanced workshop focused specifically on designing the newsletter bulletins and website elements. This training session will be specifically geared toward our incoming Communications Chair, Rotarian Martha, as well as some key members from RCGC who is looking to establish a new bulletin template. If any other members are interesting to sit in and learn along the way, you are more than welcome to attend.

Please reach out to Director Gina at gina@rotarysunrise.ky. More details will be provided once a date, time and location have been finalized. Thank you in advance for your interest.
Poutine for Polio Fundraiser and Fellowship - So What's Stopping You from Signing Up?
Submitted by Director Gina

Date: Saturday, February 22
Time: 7:30pm - late
Location: Craft Pub

Why Should You Come?
If not for the opportunity to socialize and build stronger friendships with other fellow Rotarians over drinks then definitely for the opportunity to help end Polio. If you are currently on a strict weight loss plan and worried about what the poutine may do to you on the scale, don't let that stop you as there are always other options available. We want to see a large turn out this Saturday, even if you only have time to stop by for a quick drink and banter while dropping a few dollars into the Polio jar... we would love to see you come out.
