Ordering Breakfast on Wednesday?
Due to the GT Yacht Club now open to the public for breakfast, Club Members are being asked to place their breakfast orders with the wait staff at the register by the coffee station. This will not only speed the ordering process but you will receive your meal faster. In addition, if the water jug at your table needs a refill, kindly have someone bring it to the coffee station for a top up.

Literacy Month
Book Donations to Schools

The story book ‘All the Joy in the World’, specially commissioned by Rotary Sunrise, was written and illustrated by local teacher/author/artist Nasaria Suckoo-Chollettee. It conveys the values in Rotary’s Four-Way-Test in a manner easily understood by children. These books will be distributed to Year 3 children (Year 4 at Sir John A Cumber Primary) in all schools on Grand Cayman and so far 413 have been requested by the government schools. We do not yet have the numbers for the private schools.
Schools covered so far are Lighthouse, Savannah, Prospect and North Side. Rotarians Hendrik, and Andrea delivered and read the books to the children; Donald delivered the books to North Side Primary and they were read by MLA Hon. Ezzard Miller.
On Monday March 24, Rotarian and Education Councillor Winston along with Hon Tara Rivers, Minister of Education, will read for the children at Sir John A Cumber Primary; Rotarian Andrea and MLA Hon. Arden McLean will be at East End Primary. Prospective member Susan Fraser, will do the honours at Red Bay and George Town Primary Schools March 27 and 28 and PE Kim will finish up with Bodden Town Primary March 31. I’ll try to arrange for MLAs to be at the schools in George Town and Bodden Town as well.
Many thanks to everyone and to PP Woody who has stored the books for us and patiently dealt with the many emails from us as we arranged to pick up the books from him; thanks to Rotarian Bina for scheduling the visits to the schools.

The students enjoyed the story, and in fact, have chosen this book to highlight during our Reading Week activities at the end of the month. Our theme is “One World, Many Stories”, and this story will represent Cayman. The students will be creating a story board based on the story and will also be making kites.

7th Annual Heart Health Fair - Success!!

This year's Heart Health Fair was again a huge success thanks to all the Rotarians who came out to support the children's activity area. The kids who attended had fun trying out the different activity stations, earning stamps for their efforts and being rewarded with cool prizes. For some reason the Hula Hoop station was a big attraction with some great competitors but one little girl took the top ranks after completing 1,000 hulas. Wow!

Painless Giving

It's tough to be a caring person these days. We are all constantly being bombarded with requests for donations to help right the many wrongs in today's world.
However, there are ways to give that don't directly impact your wallet.
One that I recently discovered (and almost overlooked) is Amazon's new Smile program.
According to the website, "AmazonSmile is a simple and automatic way for you to support your favorite charitable organization every time you shop, at no cost to you. When you shop at smile.amazon.com, you’ll find the exact same low prices, vast selection and convenient shopping experience as Amazon.com, with the added bonus that Amazon will donate a portion of the purchase price to your favorite charitable organization. You can choose from nearly one million organizations to support."
And of course, one of those charitable organizations is The Rotary Foundation (TRF) of Rotary International.
Now, every time I shop at Amazon, TRF gets 0.5% of my purchase price. And it doesn't cost me one extra dime. I simply have to remember to go to smile.amazon.com when I want to purchase something.
Many companies are offering innovative ways to give back. Think about the United Airlines Million Miles for Charity and the triple-your-donation matching pledge by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for PolioPlus.
So, let's stay alert for other ways to painlessly give to our Rotary Foundation and make our shrinking dollars go further than ever.
If you find any other donation programs that support The Rotary Foundation, please let TRF Chair Hendrik know about it. That way we can spread the word and build the wealth of opportunities for growing our Foundation, engaging Rotary and changing lives.

Incoming Directors and Chair Members will be meeting on Tuesday, March 25 for a brainstorming & discussion regarding the 2014 - 2015 Planning Guide for Rotary Sunrise. This guide will help pave the path for the new Rotary year beginning July 1, 2014. More details will come once the Planning Guide is finalized.
Buy a Kid a Book

Rotarians Pauline and Barbara O have organized and coordinated the weekly collections at Foster’s Food Fair, with the final week being Saturday, March 29. Many thanks to Pauline and Barbara as well as the many volunteers who have made this possible. The funds raised will be used to buy books for school libraries. Final figures will be presented to the club once the final collection is completed.

Caring for Life Foundation

The Rotary Club of Grand Cayman Sunrise is pleased to present with the Caring For Life Foundation with a cheque for CI$5,000. This donation is being made to the Foundation’s designated fund to purchase a non-emergency transportation vehicle for patients with appointments at Health Services Authority (H.S.A.) facilities. The Sunrise logo will be featured on the van in recognition of this donation.
The Caring For Life Foundation was created in 2010 and former Sunrise Rotarian Bruce John was instrumental in its establishment. It is modeled after other hospital foundations around the world and is Cara charitable trust independent of the Government and the H.S.A. Its primary goal is to purchase needed equipment to improve the services offered by the H.S.A. Needs are identified in close consultation with the management of the H.S.A.
The van that will be purchased will be used to transport patients to and from appointments such as chemotherapy and dialysis and it will be able to accommodate several patients both ambulatory and in wheelchairs. Currently patients needing assistance with transportation are transported using a regular ambulance which can only transport one patient at a time, and results in increase wear and tear and maintenance on these essential emergency vehicles and increased response times in instances of genuine emergency.
The Foundation will also be seeking to raise funds to equip a new operating room at the Cayman Islands (GT) Hospital.

Join In Recycling Team Heads to the Brac

On Thursday, March 27, representatives from the Join In Initiative will be heading over to the Brac for an intense Recycling Education schedule. With a goal of spreading awareness of the necessity for Cayman to start recycling more, President JD Mosley-Matchett, of the Rotary Sunrise and President Kadi Merren, of the Kiwanis Club will be heading to the Brac to give presentations to the schools, service clubs and in a public forum to encourage the Brac to "Join In". The itinerary is as follows:
8:10 - 8:35am = Layman Scott High School
9:15 - 9:30am = Spot Bay Primary Junior School
10:00 - 10:15am = Creek Primary Infant School
10:45 - 11:00am = West End Primary school
12:00 - 1:00pm = Lunch
3:30 - 5:00pm = Meeting with Rotary, Lions, Leo's, UCCI Students & Community
Both President JD and President Kadi are also seeking to secure interviews with the local media and department of environmental health to understand what services are available to Brac residents and what services can be made available given business sponsorship. Wine Tasting Fellowship

What does "Aroma", "Bouquet" and "Body" have in common? These are all terms likely to be used at the Wine Tasting Event being held at The Grand Old House on Saturday, March 29.
The Mighty Luciano will preside and take us through two white wines and two reds and explain them and test our attentiveness. The idea is to do a series of these and include interactive events like blind tastings - build our wine knowledge - Luciano has a programme. Canapes will also be served to complement the wines. We have put the price at CI$30 to make sure we get decent wines.

What is R.L.I? - The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is a multi-district, grassroots leadership development program of member districts organized into regional divisions in various parts of the world. It is not an official program of Rotary International and is not under its control.
