British ex-pats Gaylene and Nigel Meeson live in the Cayman Islands with their six year-old daughter, Hannah, who is battling brain cancer. Last year they started a charity event to help raise funds for cancer research since very little money goes to fund childhood cancer.  Past Presidents Woody Foster and Winston Connolly showed their support again this year by shaving their heads and all funds raised went to St Baldrick's Foundation.

 

Rotarians Have Fun at the Spaghetti Western Fellowship

Over 30 Rotarians, guests and Rotaractors corraled at Director's Dawn's house for the Spaghetti Western fellowship night! There was lots of pasta, sauces and meat balls of every kind!. PP Tony's meatballs were voted the best of the night with President Kim & Stacey's meatballs coming in a close second. As the night continued, President Kim tuned up his guitar and strummed songs while those in attendance tried to sing along (even though not everyone knew all the lyrics!)  Eventually, karaoke tunes were placed on Dawn's tv screen and that's when the real fun began. With singing and much laughter, the night was an enjoyable one for all.

         

   

 

The Rotary Club of Kingston will spend approximately $20 million to establish a model business town at the Ministry of Education’s (MOE) Caenwood Centre complex in Kingston as part of the club’s major project for 2013/14. The model business town, which will be housed in a retrofitted building at Caenwood Centre, will be called Junior Achievement Biztown. The President of the Rotary Club of Kingston, Allison Peart said that they are "engaging Rotary to change lives with this project and believe in Junior Achievement's vision to see every Jamaica child become armed with the knowledge and practical experience required to contribute positively to their development and the economy."

 

As Sunrise is a strong supporter of Junior Achievement, here in Cayman, there was positive feedback from members in support of this project and so New Generations Committee donated $500 and the International Service also donated $500. Rotarian David Reid was able to get his company to provide additional support by matching our donation of $1,00 making it a total of US $2,000 given.

It is with hopes that our JA students will possibly be able to fly to Jamaica and work on joint projects with the Jamaican Junior Achievement students.

The e-Club website is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You just need to spend a minimum of 30 minutes on the site and answer some questions to get the make up certificate. Travelling: If you are going to be travelling for an extended period of time - more than two weeks be sure to let the Secretary know and remember to submit any make-ups you do in a timely manner.
