One down, only eleven more to go!
July started off with a bang as we inducted our first honorary member for the year. Rotarian Martyn Roper, Governor of Cayman Islands, was proud to become one of us as he noted he attended some of our events and commended the club on how active we are in the community.
Some of us travelled on to Cayman Brac to show support to the Rotary Club of Cayman Brac as they swore in their new President, Officers and Board. We had some time to do a bit of sight-seeing and let our artistic sides out as we made our mark in the Cayman Art week – Brac Community Canvas (
www.gordonsolomon.com). This weekend was a busy one as we also had the grand opening of the care home by Loud Silent Voices to which our Club contributed significantly.
Following on we had Dr. Geronimo Jones give us a presentation on UV Rays and the effects on the skin – I still hear persons recalling how impactful this was and we can’t wait to have Dr. Jones back.
Our first business meeting went off with a sneak peek into the plans we have for the year and Claire Hughes of Plastic Free Cayman, who calls herself an accidental activist, rounded up the month of speakers and even brought each of us reusable shopping bags made from recycled plastics.
The bus shelter crew continued to for the month of July with a few hiccups and lessons learnt – I’m not sure Rtn Richard M will be welcomed at any further bus shelter work parties.
We’ve had our first radio “appearance” (
https://youtu.be/IR54ASK_aMo) for the year and work has started on our first Gumball Car Rally taking place this month – three weeks to go!
Special thanks to Rotarian Dhalia for the great meeting highlights for the month of July, and to all who have participated in any way shape or form to keeping us going. Your work has not gone unnoticed.
Looking forward to August and a focus on membership and our exciting Gumball Car Rally. July has come and gone so quickly but one thing has resonated – always wear sunscreen!
