Thirty-three years ago on December 29, 1981, the Rotary Club of Cayman Brac received its charter from Rotary International and on March 26, 1982 this charter was presented to twenty six strong men who started the club in June 1981. The club traditionally celebrates charter night in the month of March and this year in keeping with tradition the club met on March 18th at the Alexander Hotel for another night of fun and fellowship.

Bar-B-Que ribs and stake with cocktails and soothing music brought back pleasant memories as Rotarian Lauriese Ashman related the good times and big projects this little club has achieved.  The construction of the Stake Bay library, the Exercise trail and Life Course stations at West End Community Park, Annual Bike-A- Thon,  funds to End Polio Now  and the feeding programme in the Philippines are a few of the club projects. The club continues to focus on Rotary international programmes to include Peace and conflict resolution, literacy, Health and Sanitation, youth development, clean water and better health for all.

We were then treated with a short but very interesting slide show of life under the Cayman Brac waters by Veteran diver and underwater photographer Mr Mark Lightfoot. Mark paused at the Lionfish slide not only to show how pretty it looks but to emphasize the dangers of this predator to marine and plant  life here and wished that much more could be done quickly to decrease its population. This slide was followed by a lively discussion on fourteen relevant and timely tips to success. Rotary Volunteer Pastor Thom French said in this discourse that there is need to want to be successful. It also involves waking- up on the same day you go to bed.

This evening came to a close with the cutting of the cake by Charter member Audley Scott and Honorary Rotarian Annie Rose Scott. Both members were presented with the Paul Harris Four Way Test medallion. Annie Rose received this award on behalf of her late husband and charter member Olney Junior Scott.

President Dhal and members of the club express sincere thanks to the management and staff of the Alexander Hotel and our presenters Mark Lightfoot and Pastor Tom French for making this evening another good time to cherish.
