Trust Company staff collect funds to assist with humanitarian efforts in the stricken Caribbean country.

It is impossible to view the tragedy unfolding in Haiti and not feel the need to reach out in some way to offer help to those caught in that crisis. The staff of the Equity Trust offices globally, including those in Hong Kong, Jersey and Luxembourg, joined with the staff of the BVI office to collect funds to assist with humanitarian efforts in the stricken Caribbean country.  The funds collected by Equity staff were matched by the Company.

On Thursday 18th February 2010, the Equity Trust (BVI) office donated a cheque in the sum of USD$8,500.00 to the Rotary Club of Tortola to be added to the Rotary Haiti Disaster Fund.  Mrs. Linda Romney Leue, Managing Director of the BVI office, stated "the situation was very emotional for us in the BVI, as we have staff members with close relatives in Haiti, some of who lost their lives, so this tragedy became very real for us. I am sure that many of us would have physically gone to provide our help if that were possible.  We decided to contribute to the rebuilding via Rotary, as it is one of the trustworthy and legitimate organizations assisting in the recovery efforts in Haiti. We are hopeful that our contribution will help to ease the suffering of those on the ground.  Our contribution however will not stop here.  Equity will continue to do its part to highlight the plight of the Haitian people to achieve improved conditions for those living on the island".

Recovery efforts continue in Haiti a little over one month after the devastating earthquake. The death toll stands at an estimated two hundred thousand persons.
