Mr. Lionel Michael, Chief Environmental Health Officer in the Ministry of Health and Social Development, Environmental Health Division, addressed the members of Rotary and Guests at today, 17 October 2019, Rotary Meeting.  Mr. Michael is responsible for the Administration and Management of the Environmental Health Services and Programs.
We all like to do our bit to help the environment.  As time goes on, we are seeing more and more environmental concerns.  Environmental health is focused on the natural and built environments for the benefit of human health.
Mr Michael believes that maintaining a healthy environment is central to increasing quality of life and years of healthy life.  He touched on protecting water sources and minimizing exposure to contaminated water sources.  Surface water and ground water quality concerns apply to both drinking water and recreational waters and are important parts of environmental health.  Water quality is an important global challenge.  Diseases can be reduced by improving water quality and sanitation and increasing access to adequate water and sanitation facilities.
