Rotary Club of Tortola Presents Cheque to Kids and the Sea (KATS)
Thursday June 30th, 2011 – At the Rotary Club of Tortola’s weekly meeting held at the Moorings, the Club presented a donation of $5,000 to Kids and the Sea (KATS). Rotarian
Tom Gerker accepted the check on behalf of KATS. KATS is a water sports programme which is open to each and every child in the BVI. It is a non-profit organization and depends solely on donations from the local community
Rotary Club of Tortola’s President, Lorna Smith, said that she was extremely pleased to be able to present the donation to KATS, especially since one of the objectives for her year as President was to increase the overall support to programmes geared towards benefiting the Youths in the territory. Rotarian Tom Gerker thanked the Rotary Club of Tortola on behalf of KATS, and reminded everyone that the Premier’s Cup which is soon approaching will see 8 teams from Countries such as
This programme was introduced to the BVI in 1990, by Tom Gerker, when he moved from St. John to the BVI. A young life was lost there , because the boy couldn't swim. Since then hundreds or may be thousands of children in the BVI are "safe at sea"
