Leroy Moses was inducted as the Rotary Club of Tortola's next president during a dinner on Friday, July 3. He succeeds Percy Rhoden as president of the Club.

Mr. Moses said that the Rotary Club of Tortola has pledged that the club will continue to fulfill its mission to serve the community the coming 12 months. Other members of the club's 2009-2010 Board were inducted that evening. They are Vice President Lorna Smith, President-Elect Nigel Bailey, Secretary Pauline Robinson, Treasurer Kert Tennikait, Sergeant-at-Arms David Archer, Secretary-Elect Susanna Henighan Potter, and Directors Paloma Helm, Jacqueline Newton, Stephen Cooper, Sam Welch and PP Lloyd Black.

In addition to installing its new Board, the Rotary Club of Tortola on Friday also honoured two members of the community with the prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship. The honourees were Linnell Abbott and Christopher Ghiorse. At the club's weekly luncheon held on Thursday July 2nd, Rotarian Clarence Thomas was honored with his second Paul Harris Fellowship for his commitment to Rotary of Service Above Self. Paul Harris Fellowships are named for the founder of Rotary International, and are given to persons in the community who demonstrate a commitment to Rotary values of service, ethics, and goodwill.

During the evening President Percy presented special awards to Rotarians who distinguished themselves during the past year.

The Distinguished Service Award went to Rtn. Chris Ghiorse for his tireless work on numerous community projects and Rtn. Stephen Cooper for his excellent work with the Haiti project.

The Distinguished Presidential Award was presented to Rtn. Paloma Helm and Rtn. Jacqueline Newton for their tremendous success with the Grand Affair and Rtn. Lorna Smith for her role in several other projects.

Rotarian Sam Welch presented the 'Rotarian of the Year" award to young energetic and well deserving Rotarian Stephen Cooper.

After being entertained by the Sergeant-at-Arms Rotarians David with his imitation of the Michael Jackson moon walk and Lorna with her E.J. Churchill hat for specs which had the audience rolling with laughter, Vote of thanks were given by Rt. Joycelyn Murraine. President Leroy offered the Toast to Rotary International.
