The Rotary Club of Tortola received a special visitor at its weekly luncheon meeting on September 11: the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force's new dog, specially trained in detecting narcotics. "Ciro" and her handler, Detective Brian Penn, gave Rotarians a demonstration of their capabilities during the meeting.

The Rotary Club of Tortola donated $25,000 to the RVIPF in 2006 for the establishment of its Canine Unit. The donation was part of the proceeds from the Club's annual Grand Affair fundraising auction.

Commissioner of Police Mr. Reynell Frazer, who was the guest speaker at today's meeting, thanked the Rotary Club for its support in the fight against crime in the BVI. Commissioner Frazer said that another officer is presently in the United States receiving training in dog handling and that soon the Force's Canine Unit will have a complement of two trained dogs and two trained handlers.
