U.S. Ambassador Nicole Avant brought remarks to the children who participated in the Rotary Club of Nassau Sunrise's 4th Annual Reading Fair held March 13,2010.

The fair was attended by more than two hundred students from primary schools in the Bain and Grants Town areas. Ambassador Avant noted that one of her priorities is to encourage a love for reading by children because of the lifelong benefits it will provide. She told the children present that besides being enjoyable reading will help to expand their vocabulary and stimulate the imagination. Through reading children can learn about other people, places and cultures. Additionally, reading allows you to escape from the world and experience life through someone else's eyes. Ambassador Avant stressed the importance of children knowing how to read saying that they can't properly learn if they are unable to do so. She also told the children that reading will open doors that you never thought were possible. Also in attendance was the Minister of Education, Desmond Bannister and Rotary Assistant Governor Felix Stubbs.
