Rolle, Vocational Chairperson both representing the Rotary Club of Nassau Sunrise, presented Mr. Michael Jackson of the Reef Restaurant with a plaque for his efforts in assisting the Club with its inaugural  “Breakfast At Sunrise” program launched at the Mable Walker Primary School.    The Reef, as a major sponsor of this community service project, graciously prepared breakfast for approximately 50 children once per week.

This twelve-week initiative was launched on Wednesday, September 28th, 2011 with the following major objectives:

·         To supplement the Department of Social Service’s School Welfare Lunch Program for less privileged primary school students;

·         To ensure that this group of students receive a hot breakfast at least one day of the week to aid in cognitive development; and

·         To fulfill Rotary International’s ultimate motto of “Service Above Self”.

Partnering with the Club in this venture were the Reef Restaurant, Phil’s Food Service, Chef Eldred Saunders, Sojourner-Douglass College and Thompson Trading Company Ltd.    Having community partners who understood philosophically what is meant by corporate goodness was a very important and key ingredient in initiating this program noted Dr. Rolle.   Accordingly, the program was developed to “supplement the existing lunch program sponsored by the Department of Social Services, as well, offer to the neediest children in the school, a hot breakfast that will allow them to begin their day off much like the other children who eat breakfast at home. This allows them also to enhance their cognition throughout the day and learn better overall. ”
