Trevor Heaven spoke to the club about the expectations of Rotary in this initiative. Good-Bye Polio - Thanks Rotary

The Rotary Foundation is the vehicle through which Rotary provides assistance around the world. The foundation's is actively involved in educational and humanitarian programs as well as Polio Plus. Rotary's global polio eradication initiative has been instrumental in reducing incidents of polio by 99.8%. Since the initiative started 24 years ago, over 2.5 million children have been immunized. Bill Gates has committed over $100 million to the Foundation over the next 3 years. With over 30,000 Rotary Clubs in existence, the Foundation is asking each club to donate $1000 to this effort. At the moment only India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria are plagued with the problem of polio. Bill Gates has pledged additional support of $255 million in addition to $280 million from the British and German governments for the eradication of polio and the Foundation has been asked to match it with $100 million.
