President Pat Mc Coy - "What's Happening Everybody"
_____________________________________________________________
With a hearty "Welcome Everybody to the Best Rotary Club in the World" President Pat Mc Coy opened the March 13th Rotary Meeting. In his hand he had a bag of the "Magic of Rotary" pins he brought back from Singapore.  He gave one to Patricia Hanley for participating in the District 5240 training this past weekend, one to Herb Gooch for participating on the Economic Forecast committee, and one to Larry Baker for his participation on the Street Fair committee.

He then said that Victor Hayek is stepping down as chairman of the Economic Forecast committee and he would like someone to step up to fill the position for next year.  Sevak Khodabakhshian volunteered to do just that!

With that, Larry Baker came forward to lead the pledge of allegiance followed by Nelson Buss leading everyone in My Country Tis of Thee.

Larry Baker then said he was inspired by Rotary's moto of Service Above Self and how all of the Thousand Oaks Rotary club members serve for the greater good of our community.  He is amazed how the club puts on the Chili Cook off and Street Fair and everyone's willingness to work so hard to raise money for charity.

Michael Ladd introduced visiting guests:  Jim Wilson from Westlake Sunrise, Past. Pres-Skip RobertsTeresa Lallo wife of Matt Lallo and friend of Vicki Arndt- Christy Wilson.

Correction to last weeks bulletin:  Trevor Tyloch did guest intro's last week not David Masci

PROGRAM: Craft talks bring a few members forward to talk about themselves.  It's a wonderful way to get to know new and old members better:

Let's meet:  Pat Paulucci- who grew up in Sacramento where she met and married her late husband, Joe.  They moved to the T.O. area when Joe became a youth minister of a church.  Carol Freeman was her sponsor into Rotary.  Pat was a teacher for many years in the T.O area.  She said the Rotary Moto "Service Above Self" means so much to her.  She believes she should quietly help those less fortunate.

New Member-Pat Hanley was born in Pasadena but went to school in T.O and graduated from Newbury Park H.S.  and attended Loyola Marymount.  She has known Ean Kleiger (her Rotary Sponsor) for years and always saw how much fun he was having participating in the Street Fair and Chili Cook off and how much good the Rotary Club of T.O. was doing.  She wanted to be part of that.  She loves volunteering and says how important helping others and connecting various non-profits together is to her.

New Member-Michael Ladd came to the club many times before becoming a member and said " I thought it was time I paid for my own lunches" He is good friends with President Pat and David Kriebel.  He was born in Michigan but since his father was in the military they moved around a lot.  When he met his wife Julia he asked her out twice and she turned him down.  They have now been married 45 years.  He is happy to be involved in the Chili Cook Off this year helping Paul Dryman with supplies and he loves the projects we are doing in Mexico and wants to stay involved with that.  He's retired, is not bashful, loves to sing, and believes in the 4 way test.

Returning Member-Mike Pruner grew up in T.O. and graduated from WLHS and then joined the Navy.  He served for 20 years mostly in Hawaii and was a nuclear operator on a submarine.  He moved back to California in 2002 for a job and eventually bought an air-conditioning company which he sold a couple years ago.  His oldest daughter is a Rotarian in Camarillo Sunrise and has 3 kids (his grandchildren) His youngest daughter is graduating from UCLA this year as a Psycho Biologist.  His job this year is being in charge of Chili Cooks a position he took over from Susan Murata.  He is proud of everything this club does and proud to be part of it.

Rich Folsom is normally behind the camera at all of our meetings.  Rich was born in T.O. and graduated from N.P.H.S. went to Moorpark College and CLU.  He is working in Moorpark for a manufacturer of Semi-Conductors.  He first heard about T.O. Rotary when the meetings were held at Howard Johnsons years ago.  He came to his first T.O. Rotary meeting with Cub Scouts to sell Popcorn.  Ean Kleiger was always after him to join Rotary and he finally did (Ean was his sponsor).  Rich has lots of love and respect for everyone in the club.  He said the work we do is like a pebble in a pond....the ripple effect just keeps going and going.

Marc Feigen stepped up this year to become Club Secretary.  Marc was born in L.A. and graduated from Davis College.  He was a bio chemist and got tired of doing that so he went to work for a company that made Christmas trees, then he became a Residential Realtor.  He then owned a chain of bagel restaurants for 20 years and they made over 1,000,000 bagels a year.  For the past 10 years he has been in commercial real estate.  He also said Service Above Self is important to him.  He loves our Major events and said 2 years ago Susan Murata asked him to run the T.O Chili booth at the Chili Cook Off.  he made and served 25 gallons of chili the past two years.  and is doing so again this year.
