Invite a friend, family member, colleague to join Rotary.
Encourage Them to Be Part of Something GREAT!!!
Why wouldn’t you want them to be part of an organization that feeds the hungry, cures the sick, provides education to women and children, provides clean water and sanitation. And now is taking on the environment.
President Pat Mc Coy opened the meeting with We Are Family playing in the background. He asked how many people had seen the district email about training this Saturday? He encouraged everyone to go online and participate in the training, especially incoming Board Members. The link for registration is below in the Service Above Self Section.
He also talked about an event put on by New West Symphony this past weekend- Carnival of Animals. The event brought in hundreds of children/students and taught them about the different types of musical instruments and there were performances by musicians and dancers. He said it was wonderful!
He then said, "Let's Get This Party Started" and invited Hugo Roche to lead the club in the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by Vicki Arndt having everyone sing God Bless America.
Hugo then told the club, that the T.O. Rotary Club members inspire him-and a couple others like his sister who taught him how nice it was to do the dishes every night- she is now 96 years old. And his brother who liked boxing and used Hugo as his punching bag (his brother passed away last year at 93).
David Masci then introduced our guests: From Ojai Rotary-Jack Jacobs, a potential new member-Leah Sparks and Matt Lallo's wife-Teresa

Jeff Borenstein presented President Pat Mc Coy with his 28 years of perfect attendance for the 28 years he has been a Rotarian.
Vicki Arndt reminded everyone about the Polio Drive. 10 Rotarian " Ed's Angels" have put in $1,000 each ($10.000 Total) and Vicki challenged the rest of the club members to match that amount. She passed around a sign up sheet for people to say how much they will be donating.
Marissa Buss said there is a couple wonderful opportunities to work at the Chili Cook Off. She is looking for someone to be in charge of the volunteer assignments checking people in and telling them where to go for their assignment. And also, someone to take over the setting up of the delineators on the South Lot. And also someone to manage the chili-cup/spoon hand out booth.
Jim Friedl reminded everyone about the Earth Day Clean up April 19th, 8 am-2pm. It's a Group 4 project to clean up some CRPD trail heads. Jim will have a sign-up sheet in coming weeks
***Rotarian David Harris had back surgery and is not able to drive, He is currently in a wheelchair. He would like to attend Rotary meetings but needs a ride. If you are able to offer a ride. please call Susan Murata to coordinate (805) 390-0027
HAPPY DOLLARS: President Elect-Darin Arrasmith carried the cup.
Martin Anderson praised Hugo Roche for always doing a great job every time he speaks.
Paul Dryman said it is his business' 28th anniversary.
Trevor Tyloch said if you want to blame someone for his being in the club, you should blame his sponsor-Darin Arrasmith.
Carol Schrieber said it is her husband-Chet's 75th birthday today and she is also excited that her alma mater- Duke University is the #1 ranked basketball team
Fine Master-David Masci jokingly said the fine session would be about the Club's by-laws.....but then said just kidding it's on Puzzles and Games.
He called up:
Tanya Calijury, Marc Feigen, Jeremy Paris and Regina Biddings Muro. Vicki Arndt handed them various games/puzzles to solve (Rubic's Cube, Kendama (ball on a string), etc. Jeremy finished first.
Then he called up Carol Freeman and gave her a rubber chicken and asked her "what do you do with a rubber chicken?" She answered-"You squeeze it" and did so.
Next up were Larry Baker and Carol Schrieber and were handed a hoola hoop and a nerf gun. Larry had to shoot a nerf bullet through the hope while Carol held it.
Then it was Marissa Buss and Jim Friedl's turn. Marissa was given a ball that she had to pitch to Jim and he knocked it out of the park with a dummy hand he was given to use as a bat.
Haider Alawami was asked to bounce a ping pong ball off a table into a solo cup. He did it on the Third and final try.
Lastly President Pat Mc Coy, and President Elect-Darin Arrasmith were given cowboy hats and nerf guns for a shootout. President Pat exclaiming "there's not enough room in this town for the two of us". And P.E. Darin, saying "there's a new sheriff in town, now!!". Pres Pat was the first to shoot Darin, so he remains in charge.... for now.

PROGRAM: Regina proudly introduced her colleague from CLU-Dr. Sabath Khan, who has published two books and is a professor at CLU: The Masters of Public Policy and Administration program.
He spoke about the programs his department has performed. They choose important issues that affect the community, and they try to find solutions/answers. His students research, conduct interviews, analyze and provide a comprehensive analysis of each issue. A couple were:
1. Empowering the next generation of homeowners in Ventura County. (done for the city of Moorpark).
2. Sea Level rise in Ventura- how to mitigate the rising sea level.
3. Public Safety in Los Angeles
He believes his students would pass the 4-Way test with the way they conduct these studies. They seek the truth, want to be sure it is fair to all concerned, they look across intellectual lines to find equitable solutions for all.
The course mission is to provide inspiration, academic training and an intellectual atmosphere for students to enter public service careers. Providing a strong curriculum, opportunities for mid-career professionals and more.
Before closing, Dr. Khan took several questions from club members.
