BECOMING A ROTARIAN IS A MEANINGFUL EXPERIENCE....
Invite a friend, family member, colleague to join Rotary.
Encourage Them to Be Part of Something GREAT!!!
Why wouldn’t you want them to be part of an organization that feeds the hungry, cures the sick, provides education to women and children, provides clean water and sanitation. And now is taking on the environment.
President Darin opened the meeting, reminding everyone that November is Foundation month.
Pledge and Inspirational Moment: Pres. Darin then provided the Inspirational Moment saying there is a lot of worrying going on in the world, both domestically and internationally and he is so grateful that Rotary continues to be neutral and concentrates on humanitarian efforts that affect positive change in the world. By leading by example, Rotary will bring these positive changes for generations to come. He is proud to be a part of an organization that focuses on Service Above Self. After his Inspirational Moment, Karen Furnari led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Song: after the Pledge, Jessica Sassalos led everyone in "God Bless America".
Guest Introductions: Susan Murata introduced guests: Matt Lallo's wife-Teresa, Len Smoulburd (CEO Boys/Girls Club), Paul Dryman's guest-Alex Treviakin, Darin Arrasmith's guest-Cole Mahoney-Bruer
Nate Harimoto let everyone know that for next week's program-the newest member of the K-9's for Warriors Dog- Lanny will be here with her Veteran Tony and encouraged everyone to attend for this inspirational program. (Photo on the left after Birthdays)
Pres. Darin reminded everyone that there will be ongoing Economic Forecast meetings after Rotary each week going forward.
President Darin also announced that Board of Directors elections will be held the first week in December. Darin said serving on the Board is a "Get To, not a Have To" experience and he thanked all of the candidates for their willingness to serve.
The slate of Board Members includes-Karen Albaum, Karen Furnari, Jessica Sassalos, David Masci, Carol Schrieber, Anthony Linquata, Nelson Buss and Dominic Pinos. Bio's of each candidate will be read at each upcoming November meetings. Three Bios were read at the end of this meeting (Darin forgot to do it earlier) by Vicki Arndt-see below....
Karen Albaum- has been a member of T.O. rotary for just over 2 years, sponsored by Karen Furnari. She currently helps with lunch making for our local residents, collects the signed books from our speakers and delivers them to a local school, hosts fireside chats, and poured beer at the chili cook off. She schedules Rotarians for happy dollars, has been a greeter multiple times and is getting up the courage to do an inspirational moment.
She sold raffle tickets at the wine event and also gets greeting cards ready for signing by our members twice a year to add to the Senior Concerns meal deliveries. She is looking forward to helping administratively for RYLA in the spring and will soon begin working with the local high school Rotarians in training.
She has volunteered all her life, starting with a county animal shelter when she was 14. She studied early childhood development in college and feels that is helpful when dealing with different adult personalities.
Karen Furnari-Joined the TO Club in 1994 and has always been a passionate and involved member. Past club positions include- current member of the Rotary Choir, Club Vocational Chair 2005-2006 and Past President 2018-2019, she was Co Rookie of the year 1997-1998 and Co Rotarian of the Year - 2003-2004.
Karen has also served in positions at the District Level. She was District Vocational Chair 2005/2006 and Assistant Governor for District 5240 -2020-21.
Jessica Sassalos: As a storyteller with over 20 years of experience in the entertainment industry, she has always been passionate about creating powerful and authentic narratives. Now, she brings that same passion to service through Rotary.
She is a fourth-generation Rotarian, and service is truly woven into the fabric of her family's story. Her great-grandfather was among the founding members of the Boston Rotary Club. Her grandfather followed in his father's footsteps, serving as President of the Boston club and going on to serve as District Governor in Massachusetts. Her mother also served as President of the Boston Rotary Club after joining Rotary in 1989 as part of the organization's inaugural class of women.
She joined Rotary to honor a request from her mother, who passed away last year. She believed deeply in giving back to the community and loved everything Rotary stood for. However, after becoming an active member of this club, Jessica has discovered why Rotary resonates with her personally.
Her commitment to Rotary rests on three core values: Collaboration - Working alongside fellow Rotarians as true partners in service. Compassion - Treating every initiative and every person we serve with genuine care and respect. Trust - Serving as a dedicated advocate for our community and mission, upholding the integrity Rotary has maintained for generations.
She would be an honored to continue this legacy of service alongside the members of this club.
Trevor Tyloch started Happy Dollars by thanking everyone that participated in this year's Story Book Project. Said it was an incredible day.
Dorothy Sullivan echoed Trevor's comments and said as a new member, this was her first time experiencing the Story Book project and it was fabulous, she encouraged other members to try to participate next time.

Pat Mc Coy also was happy for the Storybook project and said we brought peace to the families of the inmates we recorded. These families will have the joy of hearing their incarcerated parents voice this Christmas.

Dave Wender was happy to be celebrating 40 years of Marriage.

The Rotary Foundation started in1917 by Arch Klumph, who started an endowment for the purpose of doing good in the world.
The Rotary Foundation has a 4-star rating with Charity Navigator and has received that distinction for 17 consecutive years.
There are many ways to give to the Rotary Foundation: Annual Fund (SHARE, World Fund), Polio Plus, Disaster Response & Peace Centers, and the Endowment.
How to Contribute: Use Rotary.org, if available-use Employer Match, and thru club giving. You can also use teh Donor Advised Fund, use a Qualified Charitable Distribution from IRA's and/or Deferred Giving thru Bequests, Charitable Annuities and Charitable Remainder Trusts.
Clubs can access TRF Annual funds through Global Grants, District Grants, Disaster Response Grants and Peace Scholar Nominations. The Rotary Club of Thousand Oaks has leveraged those funds for many projects like the Malawi hospital equipment Grant, the Tijuana Pediatric Cancer Hospital, nominating a Peace Scholar and many more.
Through TRF we "Unite For Good" and leave behind, not only, humanitarian projects but a legacy of peace, trust and Service Above Self.
At the end of the meeting, Pres. Darin presented a book to David for him to sign that will be donated to a title one school in our area.
Darin then asked all new members to stand and then members who have been in the club 25+year.
