It commemorates the day when the Union Army arrived in Texas on June 19, 1865, to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation and inform the still enslaved residents of their freedom and the end of the Civil War. Angela talked about poet laureate Amanda Gorman’s call for unity and togetherness. She remarked about how Juneteenth is an inspiration for generations to come and affords us the opportunity to express the idea of America where all cultures are to be celebrated.
Bruce Stewart added that he was inspired by his granddaughter who knew all about Opal Lee, the “Grandmother of Juneteenth.” Angela and Bruce encouraged all to attend the Juneteenth celebration on Saturday at Oxnard Plaza Park.
President Pat thanked Angela and Bruce for being there and asked them to sign books to be donated to Title One Schools in their honor.
With Pres. Pat by his side, David Masci reminded all about Pat’s upcoming Demotion party on Friday, June 27th. Encourage Them to Be Part of Something GREAT!!!
Why wouldn’t you want them to be part of an organization that feeds the hungry, cures the sick, provides education to women and children, provides clean water and sanitation. And now is taking on the environment.
