BECOMING A ROTARIAN IS A MEANINGFUL EXPERIENCE....

Invite a friend, family member, colleague to join Rotary.

Encourage Them to Be Part of Something GREAT!!!

Why wouldn’t you want them to be part of an organization that feeds the hungry, cures the sick, provides education to women and children, provides clean water and sanitation.   And now is taking on the environment.

President Darin Arrasmith
__________________________________________________________________
President Darin Arrasmith started the meeting by telling everyone about a new idea President Elect Michelle Nash came up with to recycle the Rotary magazines we all receive every month.  The idea is to use the magazines as a means to introduce people to what Rotary does around the world.  Darin asked everyone to bring in their old magazines for this new program idea.

INSPIRATIONAL MOMENT: Victor Hayek said as he was trying to come up with his theme for his Inspirational Moment it dawned on him just how many inspirational things are going on in our community and district.  RYLA, the city's Youth Council, our 4-Way Essay contest, Youth Citizenship Awards, and so many other worthy causes/projects right here.  He said we, as Rotarians, do not wait for the big moment...... we create it.  We have helped change our community for the positive with all the small acts we do. He is proud to serve with his fellow Rotarians.

After he led the Pledge of Allegiance, Jessica Sassalos led the room in God Bless America.

GUEST INTRODUCTIONS. Michael Ladd handled the introductions: From Simi Sunrise- Janice Wise and Kim MonitorGary Siegel's friend-Rocky and Matt Lallo's wife- Teresa

Vicki Arndt came forward to talk about our Polio Fundraising campaign.  Need to make our donations this week.  We will be presenting a check to RI for the total funds collected.  She told a story about the woman who invented a game for children who were hospitalized with Polio.  That game became the famous Candy Land game.

Darin Arrasmith told everyone to check out our Rotary Thousand Oaks Shirts (see below) that lists all of the non-profits T.O. Rotary supports.  Its pretty amazing how many we are able to help.

Kim and Janice from Westlake Sunrise announced a fundraiser $5 Friday at Art Trek.  The proceeds will go to put 33 Ugandan children in school.  This school not only provides education, but also a roof over their heads and food/water.  Event is April 17th 5:30 pm-9:00 pm.

PROGRAM: Dominic Pinos introduced the guest speaker from So Cal Edison- Ian Anderson their Government Relations Manager.

Ian spoke about the electrification Revolution going on globally and reiterated the United States is way behind many other countries.  China, by far, is leading the charge.

A.I is accelerating change; it requires a LOT of electricity.  SCE says they are cautious because safety trumps efficiency.

Investments in electrification is more than double the fossil fuel investment.  He said learning beats digging, meaning look at the market and do what the trends tell you to do, and electrification is the trend.

Solar is the cheapest and easiest to provide the power we need.

He said Southern California Edison's job is not to generate energy, their job is just to move it from where it is generated to the consumer.

President Darin had to stop him before he could continue because it was already 1:30, but thanked Ian for his presentation and had him sign a book that will be donated to at title one school in his honor.
