BECOMING A ROTARIAN IS A MEANINGFUL EXPERIENCE....

Invite a friend, family member, colleague to join Rotary.

Encourage Them to Be Part of Something GREAT!!!

Why wouldn’t you want them to be part of an organization that feeds the hungry, cures the sick, provides education to women and children, provides clean water and sanitation.   And now is taking on the environment.

PROGRAM: Vicki Arndt thanked everyone that participated in our Polio Drive and said you can still donate online.  She then introduced our Guest Speaker Mike Crosby. Mike is from Northern California and also an Eagle Scout.  He was there to talk about the fight to end Polio.

Saying it started in 1988.  There is no cure for polio so prevention is everything.  There has been only 1 reported case of the wild polio virus in 2026.  Only two countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan are not polio free.

It's difficult to get to the people in these two countries.  There are 8 check points along the border and Rotary is there trying to vaccinate as may people as possible.

The Gates foundation is still supporting the effort and have pledge 100 million dollars if Rotary raises 50 million.  This was difficult to raise with the government slashing its funding, but Rotary recently was able to get it restored.

Besides the vaccine, the money raised pays for other needs like mosquito nets, teaching children etc.  That is what the 'plus' in Polio Plus means.

Mike encouraged people to join the polio plus society by pledging to donate $10,000 to Polio Plus.  Or you can join the Kennel Club for $10 per month.

At the end Vicki shared that our club reached its goal of raising $20,000- we raised $20,380 !!!

Mike presented Pres. Darin with three Polio Plus hats and Darin in turn had Mike sign a book that will be donated to a title one school in his honor.
