Encourage Them to Be Part of Something GREAT!!!

______________________________________________________________   President Pat: "Hello Everybody"... "Welcome to the Best Rotary Club in the Universe". We are family!! He thanked everyone that brought Baby Food and other items to donate for the fire victims.  He thanked everyone that is going on the Tijuana trip tomorrow and said the best kept secret is that they 'party' every night, while they are in Tijuana.  He reminded everyone that the meeting is dark on January 30th because Fireside chats are the 30th and 31st.

He then invited Sara Collins to come forward to lead the pledge and provide the Inspirational Moment.

Karen Furnari led the group in My Country Tis of Thee.

Sara said she was in Pasadena last week when the Eaton Fire broke out and her drive home was the scariest in her whole life.  She is inspired by the first responders and how the whole communities of Altadena and Pasific Palisades and others have come together.  She said we are 'capable' and we find the light in times that are sometimes dark.  She encouraged everyone to leave a situation a little better than when we start it.

Trevor Tyloch introduced guests: Past Presidents, Keith Parks and Robert Bianchi, Matt Lallo's wife-Teresa, Michelle Nash's neighbor- Maryan Bonthius (who donates time at James Storehouse).

PROGRAM:  Past President John Bradley introduced the Guest Speaker-Elizabeth Crisp from Harbor House. Telling everyone that our club provided a global grant that raised a total of $77,000 to support the kids aging out of foster care program.

Elizabeth started by saying Harbor House is a non-profit, 501-C-3 organization that provides free resources to Foster Kids.  James is not the name of a person that started James Storehouse, the name "James" Storehouse came from a bible verse in the book of James.

There are more than 34,000 kids in Foster care in the L.A. and Ventura Counties currently.  It is important to try to help these kids break the cycle because 50% of homeless people were foster kids, 75% of the people incarcerated were, and 80% of domestic traffic kids were.

Their programs include: a Shopping Experience helping kids get clothes, hygiene products, toys, school supplies.  Harbor House does car giveaways, donate homes/apartment living.  They do Baby Showers to help young mothers get everything they need including coaching classes to help them be better mother/parent.

Some of their other programs:
Beautiful You Event-give teens the full prom experience (buy gowns, hair, nails etc.)
Job Interview Training
Back to School event -providing shoes, and school supplies.
Purposeful Parenting-Swim Classes, Zoo trips, pumpkin patches.  Mothers and kids get real life experiences and have happy memories.

Open Table- Mentorship program, 1 youth to 6 adults who work with the youth for one year.  80% stay in touch for years after as well.

19,345 kids have been served in 2024

President Pat presented the usual 'speaker gift'- a book that will be donated to a title one school in the speakers honor.
