PROGRAM: Pres Darin began by telling the club members that we are coming up with a new way of managing our accounting practices. The TORF board will be managing all of our Fundraisers (collecting money and paying the bills). This is more attractive to perspective sponsors because the funds are then tax deductible because TORF is a 501C3 organization and the club is a 501C4. And the nuts and bolts of accounting will be handled by an accountant.
This means the club treasurer and board only have to manage and control the club's administrative accounting duties/budget making it a much more manageable job each year going forward.
TORF is also going to guarantee a baseline amount of funds for the club's allocations with a three-year running average. That way if there is a bad fundraising year, the club still has a decent amount to allocate to non-profits.
Nothing changes for club members roles in working on fundraising committees, or other committees like the Allocations Committee.
We currently only have 91 members, to attract more members, we need to do everything possible to make our club all about having projects that are passionate and showing people that we make a difference both locally, regionally and globally. The club's board can now, concentrate on doing just that and not be weighed down by the budget. The Board positions should not be overwhelming, if it's not onerous, we can continue to grow and thrive.
Jason Corey is the TORF treasurer and Anthony Linquata is the incoming club's treasurer. They are going to form a committee that will work out the plan for how this will all work and come up with Standard Operating Procedures that each board going forward can easily follow.
Bob Lewis then spoke about the relationship between the Club and TORF. He said it works just like Rotary International and The Rotary International Foundation. He also reiterated that "TORF is the Club and the Club is TORF". Though they are separate entities, they are one in the Club. All of the TORF board members are former Club President and elected members. The current board officers: Pres. Bob Lewis, Secretary-Vicki Arndt, Treasurer-Jason Corey. Other Board Members include, Martin Anderson, Roger Benson, Susan Murata, Judy St. John, and more.
Bob said the main fundraiser for TORF is the wine event and the corpus has now grown to over $1.3 Million dollars. These funds are used for club projects like the Scholarship Program and other projects the 'club' brings to TORF.
Pres Darin concluded the program by giving some other facts about this Rotary year. We have secured three grants by partnering with other group 4 clubs. We have regenerated our Interact Clubs this year. We sent 10 kids to RYLA, we did multiple Blood drives and Food drives.
He is grateful to everyone that has played a role in getting things done this year. He rang the bell and said we are adjourned..... TO A STANDING OVATION.
