Invite a friend, family member, colleague to join Rotary.

Encourage Them to Be Part of Something GREAT!!!

PROGRAMProgram chair Dominic Pinos introduced the guest speaker- Clark Stevens with Santa Monica Resource Conservation District.

The Conservation District was formed locally in 1961.  They provide research, Integrated Resource Design (Use and Restoration) and are an Education Center.  They are not about stopping change but believe in working with the land and incorporating growth in a respectful way.

Some of the projects they are working on in our area.  The Liberty Canyon Wildlife Crossing.  They are also working on projects for Under pass crossings-making it more wildlife friendly to attract animals to cross under the roads. They are working on another wildlife crossing in the Newhall Pass on the 5 freeway.   They are also working on a Continuous Habitat project in the southern half of LA County providing vegetation and green infrastructure.... believing "if you build it, they will come".  Meaning by making it more environmentally friendly to wildlife, they will actually use it.

He also talked about making your home more fireproof for wildfires.  They have a ton of information about how to do that on their website. DefensibleSpace.org

At the end of the program, as our normal "speaker gift", President Darin had Clark sign a book that will be donated to a title one school in our area.
