PROGRAM:
Vicki Arndt spoke how the efforts of the Rotary Club of Thousand Oaks truly make a difference in the world and promotes "positive peace".
There is positive peace and negative peace. Negative peace is just about preventing war. But positive peace includes-peace from having a roof over your head, food on the table, access to health care, clean water, education. When we (individually or as Rotarians) do something to provide those things, we are creating positive peace.
There is more we can and need to do. 9.8% of people in Ventura County live below the poverty line. 12% of kids in Ventura County too.
Darin Arrasmith said even though we live in a perceived 'affluent' community there are thousands of people every year in this area who need the food from Manna. Many times, it's a single tragic act that causes a person to be unemployed or homeless and become food insecure.
Darin and Vicki said it is Rotary's role to promote peace through projects. Vicki did a Call to Action. Join her on line for the Rotary Peace Academy. She will send a link. With effort, we can bring Peace to our community
