Minute to Win It: A Day of Games, Laughter, and Friendly Competition!
David Masci and Vicki Arndt, founding members of The Degenerates LLC, took center stage to present a lively and entertaining program titled “Minute to Win It.” The meeting quickly turned into a game day filled with silly challenges, friendly competition, and plenty of laughs!
The contestants selected to participate were Nelson Buss, Ellen Muscarella, Chris Lamia, Victor Hayek, Cherry Wang, Kyle Lundberg, Regina Biddings Muro, Somer Barwick, and Darin Arrasmith.
Before the fun began, David read a legal waiver that all contestants had to agree to by raising their hands. With the paperwork out of the way, it was time to play!
Challenge #1: Balloons in the Air
The first challenge sounded simple enough: contestants had to keep a balloon in the air above their shoulders by continually tapping it. The first person to let a balloon hit the ground was eliminated.
Of course, a little lighthearted interference from fellow contestants added to the chaos, and balloons began dropping! Regina Biddings-Muro was the first to be eliminated. She received a consolation prize—a St. Jude candle, appropriately named for St. Jude, the patron saint of lost causes. The competition was off to a promising start!
Challenge #2: Face the Cookie
Next came “Face the Cookie.” Each contestant placed a cookie on their forehead and had to maneuver it down to their mouth without using their hands.
Kyle Lundberg was the first to successfully get the cookie to his mouth. Unfortunately, Chris Lamia dropped all of his cookies and was eliminated, earning himself the obligatory St. Jude candle.
Challenge #3: Junk in the Trunk
This challenge had everyone laughing! A box of ping-pong balls was attached to the back of each contestant. Without using their hands, contestants had to shake, wiggle, and dance until every ball was out of the box.
Somer Barwick was the first to empty her box, while Ellen Muscarella was the last to finish and was eliminated from the competition. It was certainly a challenge that required some serious shaking!
Challenge #4: Moving on Up
For “Moving on Up,” each contestant was given a stack of 20 Solo cups. The task was to move the cups one at a time from the top of the stack to the bottom.
It sounded easy, but speed and coordination were essential! Darin Arrasmith was the last to complete the challenge and was eliminated. Noone mentioned that his were glued together....
Challenge #5: Hanky Panky
The next challenge put everyone's tissue-handling skills to the test. Each contestant received a box of tissues and had to remove every tissue, one at a time, using only one hand.
The first person to empty the box would win. Unfortunately, Somer Barwick was the last to finish and was eliminated from the competition.
Challenge #6: Stack Attack
The competition continued with “Stack Attack.” Contestants had to arrange Solo cups into a pyramid, starting with a row of six cups, followed by five, four, three, two, and finally one cup at the top. They then had to take the entire pyramid down and restack the cups.
It required speed, concentration, and a steady hand. Cherry Wang was the last to complete the task and was eliminated.
Challenge #7: This Blows!
The next challenge was appropriately named “This Blows!” Each contestant had four Solo cups lined up in front of them and was given a balloon. The goal was to inflate the balloon and then use the escaping air to blow the cups off the table.
It was a race against time, but Nelson Buss was the last to complete the challenge and was eliminated.
Challenge #8: Mitten Mayhem
The final showdown came down to two contestants: Victor Hayek and Kyle Lundberg.
They were given two minutes to unwrap as many Hershey's Kisses as possible while wearing oven mitts. With their hands covered, this simple task suddenly became quite a challenge!
When time was up, Victor Hayek emerged as the winner of “Minute to Win It”! His prize package included a certificate from dentist Ian Klieger for a free colonoscopy, along with a couple of other goodies. It was certainly a prize package no one saw coming!
A Big Thank-You to Our Game-Day Crew
As the program came to a close, David Masci and Vicki Arndt thanked all the contestants for their enthusiastic participation. They jokingly admitted that the program might have been a little silly—but it was certainly fun!
They also thanked Laura for handling the sound and Trevor and Ean for serving as stagehands and helping keep the games running smoothly.
President Michelle Nash then invited David and Vicki to sign a book that will be donated to a Title I school in their honor, recognizing their contribution to the club and the community.
With plenty of laughter and memories made, Michelle brought the meeting to a close.
It was a wonderful reminder that sometimes the best Rotary programs aren't about serious business or formal presentations—they're simply about coming together, enjoying one another's company, and having a little fun!
