President Pat Mc Coy - "Welcome to the best club in the Solar System
_____________________________________________________________
President Pat exclaimed "Put your hands together" with "We Are Family" playing in the background as he opened the meeting and told the club that the District Step-Down and Awards Ceremony is on June 14th from 11-3:30; club members are going to carpool so get registered today. There will be district training on May 20th for what's new in Clubrunner and 6/3 will be a 'deep dive' into Clubrunner.

Martin Anderson was then invited forward to lead the Pledge of Allegiance.  After which Karen Furnari accompanied by Regina Biddings-Muro led the club in the National Anthem (well, sort of she actually started with 'Oh Beautiful for Spacious Skies'-which is America the Beautiful. Should have started "My Country Tis of Thee").

Martin then provided an Inspirational Moment about 'Service'.  Saying there are all types of service and that service is a personal effort.  There are people 'in service', military service, religious service, etc.  Then there is Rotary Service-Service Above Self.  Rotarians serve in many ways- working the chili cook off, International Service, donations like Paul Harris.  Rotarians are dedicated to serve all of mankind.

Nelson Buss then introduced guests:  Past President -Tony Kourounis, from Ojai Rotary- Past President Jack Jacobs, Guest of Marissa Buss-Anthony Foli, guest of Karen Albaum-guest Gary Siegle.

MAJOR DONOR LEVEL ONE RECOGNITIONLaura Conway explained that a Major Donor Level One recognition is given to a Rotarian that has accumulated charitable giving to the Rotary Foundation in the amount of $10,000.

A member of the Rotary Club of Thousand Oaks was recognized for achieving that level..... CONGRATULATIONS KEN KOSSOFF!!

Ken said he has been donating to the Rotary Foundation for the past 28 years and did so not to be recognized but because he knew the foundation was putting the money to take care of people around the globe.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Karen Albaum reminded everyone that we are collecting Water Bottles for My Stuff Bags.  Bring them next week to our meeting.  Then we will be stuffing bags that evening at the My Stuff Bags location.

Susan Murata let the club know that the club needs to be at a net+1 level in membership in order to qualify for District Recognition and asked that if anyone was thinking of inviting someone to become a Rotarian- do it now.  We are 4 people short of our goal.

Laura Conway said May 17th we will make sandwiches for Harbor House.  This will be held at Sue Engler's home.

HAPPY DOLLARS: Michael Ladd carried the Happy cup

Michael started Happy Dollars by thanking Marissa Buss for leading the charge with the Chili Cook off.

Patricia and George Jones are proud that their Grandson was accepted at UCLA's Electrical Engineering program.

Vicki Arndt put in $20 to thank Cherry Wang for helping with work assignments for the Chili Cookoff, saying it is a difficult job especially for a new member and Cherry has done a great job.  Vicki also said the Int'l grant for the Pialli India School to help women learn a vocation is almost approved.  There will be an opportunity for 25 Paul Harris fellows for our club. (only $600 -get credit for full PH)

Regina Biddings-Muro is proud to be a member of the club.  So many Rotarians stepped up to support CLU's Care Day and helped raise 4 million dollars.  Monica Murrietta sent Regina an email saying her donation was made in Regina's honor.

Karen Furnari apologized for singing the wrong lyrics to the National Anthem- Everyone laughed and most didn't even know she made a mistake.

Trevor Tyloch said Karen's mistake reminded him of the movie Christmas Vacation where Aunt Bethany is asked to lead the blessing and she recites the Pledge of Allegiance in error.

Jeff Gorrell invited everyone to attend the Supervisorial Awards on May 21 at the Amgen Campus.  100% of the proceeds earned will go to help people affected by the Mountain Fire in Camarillo.

Kyle Lundberg is proud to have dropped his son off at RYLA this morning and excited for the experience his son is going to have this weekend.

Marc Feigen thanked Marissa for her hardwork on the Chili Cookoff and thanked her for letting him run the Thousand Oaks Rotary Chili Booth where he will be making 20 gallons of chili- he put in $20 HD.

Laura Conway corrected her earlier announcement saying the correct date for the Harbor House sandwich project is May 17th.

Martin Anderson made a couple suggestions of songs Karen Furnari should try next time so she won't forget the words.

Sevak K said what an amazing experience RYLA is and that any Rotarian can come up to experience what is happening.  He said it is worth it to go.  This year they have 232 kids and Darin Arrasmith does an incredible job running it.
