BECOMING A ROTARIAN IS A MEANINGFUL EXPERIENCE....

Invite a friend, family member, colleague to join Rotary.

Encourage Them to Be Part of Something GREAT!!!

Why wouldn’t you want them to be part of an organization that feeds the hungry, cures the sick, provides education to women and children, provides clean water and sanitation.   And now is taking on the environment.

President Darin Arrasmith

President Darin opened the meeting reminding everyone that school is back in session and to be patient while you are driving around because there are a lot of people (students) on the road out there.  In these challenging times people are worried about so many things, so just be mindful and thoughtful of others. Live the 4 Way Test.
INSPIRATIONAL MOMENTJim Freidl started by saying that 1/3 of the 15,000 CRPD acres is open space with that in mind he read a poem about nature.  Saying " the rhythm of the waves, stillness of the mountains the rustle of leaves we find peace, and also a reminder that we are part of something vast and sacred".  "Make sure you get out there, not just to escape the noise but to hear what really matters".    He then led the Pledge.

Nancy Wohl then was asked to lead us in song, and in honor of President Darin and David Masci's birthdays, she led is Happy Birthday to both.

GUEST INTRODUCTIONS. Chris Steele handled the introductions: Past President-Skip Roberts, Dave Friedl's guest was Dorothy Sullivan and Matt Lallo's wife-Teresa.

PROGRAM: Shane Meserve from the Ventura County Public Health to talk
about Opiod Prevention.

She explained that Ventura County has an opioid addiction problem.  in 2021 there were 289 deaths related to opioid overdose and down a little in 2024 to 200.  Nationwide there have been over a million deaths in the last 10 years.

Opioids affect the central nervous system and anyone that has a perscription might be at risk of misuse.

Teenagers and young adults are the most at risk.  And in Ventura County it is more prevalent in Oxnard and Ventura.

NARCAN is an antidote for overdose and is administered through the nose.  The person does not have to be breathing for Narcan to work.  Anyone can get Narcan, its good for two years.

there is a website COAST.com where you can get more information about programs etc.

President Darin thanked her for being there and had her sign a book that will be donated to a title one school in her honor.
