September 16 th meeting

Last week, we had a very busy and exciting meeting.  Alan Hobler and our own Kristen Hamilton were our guest speakers presenting about Kamloops Search & Rescue. KSR does amazing work when you need it most. It is a volunteer community-based society. In addition to their search and rescue work, they also present educational programs. President Karin also made a very special presentation to Donna Gibson. Donna received a membership pin from Rotary International to recognize her sponsoring of a new member to our club, her husband Doug Gibson.  Doug we are so fortunate to have you at Aurora! Thank you Donna!

One of our guests, Sherry Chamberlain, a Rotarian with Kamloops West also made a special presentation.  Sherry presented  Nandi Spolia with his first Paul Harris in recognition of all the work Nandi has done for our community.  Congratulations Nandi and  thank you Sherry!  For more information on Paul Harris Fellows  check out https://www.rotary.org/en/take-action/give/recognition

Will George from Rotaract was also our guest last week. He talked to us about an initiative he is involved with, the Vote 50 Campaign. A non-partisan organization created to increase voter turn out from 29% to 50% in the upcoming Kamloops municipal election. Finally, Rotaract Connor Sheldon, invited us to their Bocce, Burgers and Beer Tournament on October 4th at 1:30 pm at Albert McGowan park. Teams of 2, $40 per team. Check out the details at  https://www.facebook.com/events/299577880249549/

 

Rotary Food Drive

The Rotary Food Drive was last Saturday, and what a beautiful day it was! Thank you to all the Aurora members and friends and family who came to help. We had an awesome turn out and the unofficial count is 56,000 lbs of food for the Kamloops Food Bank collected by Rotarians in our great city. 

 

September 23rd meeting

Jenn Jones will be our speaker this week. She is the project coordinator for the city's  "Homelessness Action Week" and the clothing drive she is spearheading. 

 

Raise a Reader Campaign

We  will be supporting literacy in Kamloops once again by volunteering at the Raise a Reader campaign on Tuesday, September 23rd at the Starbucks at Cityview Plaza.  Janis, Sherry, Doug and Dorys will be there, come by after the weekly meeting and say hi.
