Jim Gilmore to Serve as Vice Governor

Rotary International has asked districts to get in the habit of naming a vice-governor to look after a district, should the district governor become incapacitated unable to serve for any reason. See here for more information: https://www.rotary.org/en/council-approves-dues-increase unlimited-e-clubs

Ideally, the DG nominating committee is involved with the formal appointment process. This did not happen for us last year so we are currently without a vice-governor.

I’m feeling pretty good again today, but I think it’s a good idea to comply with the request for leadership backup, so I have named Past District Governor Jim Gilmore as vice-governor for the remainder of the 2016-17 Rotary year.

Jim was a terrific district governor for us and continues to stay well-informed about district activities and developments. I’ve also asked this year’s nominating committee to officially nominate a vice-governor for the 2017-18 year when they meet later this year.

We Rocked...and looked soooo good doing it in our new shirts!

Over 650 runners (150+ more than the previous high); Close to 80 entries in the Parade (double last year) and close to 3,000 ducks in the water...all organized by OUR ROTARY CLUB!

As usual, the committee chairs receive the first accolades: Lynda Chase (Run), Corey Laber (Parade) and Dave Franz (Race). But it was not possible without the hard work of the entire club.

George Watts, Dave Wanlass, Annmarie Stanesa, Aaron LaCross, Roger Haslick, Frank Sadowski (it was great to see Frank), Lee Halsted, Mark Newton, Steve LaCommare, Janine Teagarden, Rennia Dombrowski (Thanx, 5/3!), Jeff Schreiber (Mr. Security), Bryan Bradford, Luanne Bibbee, President Kate, Captain Wayne Perry and First Mate Jim Lawrence, Tom Archer (6 hours in the duck suit!)...just to name a few. Many pulled double or triple duty with the Run and/or Parade and/or Race.

Thanx to the spouses who gave up their 4th to make this a success: Debbie Perry, Mel Laber, Jan Bradford, Laurie Watts, Larry Lawrence...and Annmarie's Mom, Wayne's son Mike and Jeff Schreiber's son.

As usual, we learned alot and have lots of ideas to make things better next year; and as much chaos as we see from the inside of such an event...from the outside we look so organized. We received a number of compliments on the street afterwards about how well the day went and the great job we did.

We Own the Day...and We Rocked It!

Where do we start with the kudos for another successful 4th of July? Not only did we put on a flawless community event enjoyed by thousands; we also raised over $20,000 for the good works of our club both here in Livingston County and throughout the world.

There are a few we need to mention even though they are always the ones who avoid the attention as they go about their tasks.

Did you ever want to deal exclusively with businesses that adhere to the 4 Way Test?

Did you ever wonder if there was a Rotarian nearby that was a roofer, plumber, insurance agent?

The Rotary Business Directory will help you find that Rotarian.

In addition, you need to get your business registered in the Directory so that fellow Rotarians can find you.

Visit this new site today and get registered. The faster we can populate this Directory, the faster we can be doing business with our fellow Rotarians.

Why I am a Paul Harris Fellow

Following is an article from Zone 22 Publication about The Rotary Foundation written by Elly Contreras-Vermuelen. Isn't it funny how we perceive things differently when we don't have all the facts?

In an incredible attempt to appease a large number of people, we have given our Duck a full name.

Ducktor Waddlesworth Livingston

The controversy arose when the two names tied for popularity at the Board level and the club voting.

In a compromise move that surely satisfied the 4 Way Test, Duckmaster Emeritus Jim Lawrence announced the new name at a Rotary meeting last fall.

Now, instead of hearing,"What's the duck's name?" we'll hear, "What's that duck's name again?"

Maybe we'll just shorten it to Dee-dubya-el.
