On Sunday, June 1st, the grand finale of the 2025 District 6380 Weekend Conference culminated in a heartwarming service project: the Baby Basket Bonanza. The goal was simple yet profound—to create 50 thoughtfully filled baby baskets for two remarkable local nonprofits that support new and expectant mothers facing challenges.The recipients were A Girl Like Me, a Detroit-based organization accepted by its inspiring founder Tyra Moore, and Destiny and Purpose Community Outreach (DAPCO), based in Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor, represented by its dedicated Executive Director, Towana Parker.

A delightful burst of baby pinks, soft blues, sunny yellows, and gentle greens filled a charming corner of the Meadow Brook Hall Outdoor Tent, where Rotarians, Rotary friends, and devoted volunteers gathered in joyful purpose. Together, they assembled beautiful baby baskets destined to bring comfort and care to new mothers in need.

The recipients were A Girl Like Me, a Detroit-based organization accepted by its inspiring founder Tyra Moore, and Destiny and Purpose Community Outreach (DAPCO), based in Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor, represented by its dedicated Executive Director, Towana Parker.
These were no ordinary gift baskets. Instead of traditional straw containers, volunteers chose vibrant, durable laundry baskets—an intentional choice to ensure both beauty and practicality. Each was brimming with essential items every new mother could use: diapers, medical kits, swaddles, toiletries, soft blankets, and a personalized letter of encouragement—each one a token of care and connection.
With each basket valued at approximately $100, Rotarians from across the district embraced the cause with generosity and enthusiasm. Nearly every club contributed at least one basket, and many gave far more. Individual Rotarians, along with their families and friends, stepped forward to donate with open hearts, turning the project into a shining example of service in action.
The Baby Basket Committee—comprised of Jay and Linda Eastman, Janette Phillips, Connita Craft-Raymond, Alexandra Williams, and Sharna Hatcher—extends its deepest gratitude to all who contributed. Your kindness and commitment made this endeavor not only possible but profoundly meaningful.
