Dr. Robert Hancock spoke to our members on several items in regards to Emergency Medicine.

Emergency physician, Dr. Robert Hancock, came to our club on Friday morning to speak to our members. Dr. Hancock is President Elect of Texas College of Emergency Physicians. He is also the Medical Director for Keller Fire/Rescue, Westlake Fire Department, Roanoke Fire Department, and Euless Fire Department.

Dr. Hancock gave a brief history on how the field of emergency medicine started. Emergency Medicine is recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties and is governed by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Hancock stressed the importance of being CPR trained. CPR administered immediately after cardiac arrest can triple the chances of survival. Currently, less than half of cardiac arrest victims receive CPR before EMS arrives. Dr. Hancock said the single most important thing a person can do to protect their loved ones is to learn effective CPR.

Rotary members got to hear about the different types of emergency facilities and how to know which one to go to in the event of an emergency.

Additionally, Dr. Hancock discussed the importance of understanding the details of your health insurance plans. This will help eliminate surprise billing.

Thank you, Dr. Hancock for providing an informative presentation to our Rotary Club.
