Sally Wenczel is the author of the book "Lets Build a Rain Garden".

Embrace the Rain Before it Hits the Drain! Sally Wenczel’s book gives readers a close-up look at the creatures and plants that thrive inside a rain garden. Wenczel wrote and illustrated the book for children, with rhythmic verse and colorful pictures, yet she hopes to reach adult hearts with the environmental message as well.  She’ll dive into an energetic book reading, then expand on some key terms: Native Plants, Stormwater Runoff & Watershed Health, Impervious Surfaces and Green Infrastructure.

Wenczel will go over resources for native plants and garden design, while examining some real examples of rain gardens at her home. She hopes attendees will walk away with fresh insight and the confidence to install their own rain garden this spring.

Rain gardens are a simple, low-cost solution to our urban stormwater issues. Every little bit helps when it comes to watershed health and we can each be part of the solution to stop the pollution.
