The Importance of Estate Planning

Approximately fifty-five percent (55%) of American adults do not have a Will or other simple estate plan documents in place.  For many reasons, people tend to put off estate planning, whether one thinks they are not old enough, do not have any assets or for plenty of other reasons.  However, estate planning is one of the most important things you can do to plan for your future.  Whether one has a family with children, is elderly, single or divorced, an estate plan gives you peace of mind.  Taking the time to plan for yourself and your loved ones is one of the most important things you can do.  A basic Estate Plan will include documents regarding what happens if you are unable to make decisions or conduct your daily business yourself.  After one’s death, other estate plan documents come into play: Wills, Joint Ownership, Trusts, etc. (to just name a few).  Julie Trepeck Harris is an experienced attorney who will break down and explain the basics of Estate Planning.  At Resnick Law, P.C., Ms. Trepeck Harris consults individuals, couples and families tailoring a specific Estate Plan to meet the needs of that person, couple or family.  Each Plan is different, and your situation may not warrant what your neighbor should or should not do.

Julie Trepeck Harris devotes much of her practice to Estate Planning, along with spending time on other areas of law, including Real Estate, Corporate Transactions, Property Tax Appeals and Bankruptcy.  Julie joined Resnick Law as an Associate after spending the first 11 years of her career in Chicago working for several debtors’ rights firms before opening her own law practice in 2009. Upon moving back to Michigan, Julie sold her bankruptcy practice and joined Resnick Law to concentrate more on business, corporate law and estate planning.

Ms. Trepeck Harris has been named and recognized as a Top 100 Lawyer by The National Advocates, an Illinois Rising Star by SuperLawyers Magazine and recognized by Madison & Cambridge Who’s Who Registries of Executives, Professionals & Entrepreneurs for excellence in leadership and legal practice.
