Rotary National Immunization Day in India, 2020

Presentation will feature information from my trip to India to participate in the National Immunization Day against Polio.  I traveled with past Rotary International Director Brad Howard and a group of 40 from all over USA and Canada.  The trip was from January 20 – 21, 2020, just before COVID hit USA.

Margie Haas’ professional career includes legal secretary, OEM/ Government sales manager, and an educator including teacher and administrator from preschool to university settings. She attended Michigan State University for three years and then graduated from Siena Heights University, Adrian, Michigan.  She received a M.A. in Secondary Educational Leadership from Central Michigan University.  Margie was awarded a Fulbright Memorial Fund Scholarship to study the education system of Japan.   

Margie joined Hastings Rotary in 2005, after attending the RI Convention in Chicago with her Rotarian husband Gene.  Gene honored her with a Paul Harris Fellowship before she became a Rotarian.  She is Paul Harris Society member and has earned Paul Harris +8 to date.   Margie served as Hastings Rotary President in 2013-2014.  In 2015 and 2017, she traveled to the Dominican Republic with the District 6360 Safe Water project and continues to serve on that district committee.  In January, 2020, she participated in the Polio National Immunization Day in India.  She also serves on the district RYLA, Youth Exchange, and Youth Protection committees.  Ask her about the “Rotary Student Program!”  From 2014-2016, she served as President of the Rotary District 6360 Foundation, serving on the board from 2007-2017.  She served as District Governor for District 6360 (Southwest Michigan) in 2019-2020.  Margie was honored with Barry County Athena Award in January, 2015, nominated by Hastings Rotary Club.  She serves on the City of Hastings Local District Finance Authority and Brownfield Redevelopment Authority boards since 2008.  She is the current president of Hastings Education Enrichment Foundation for Hastings Area Schools.

Margie and Gene are proud that their son is a member Troy Rotary club (D-6380).  Her father was a Rotarian in Tecumseh (D-6400).  Gene is a past president of Hastings Rotary club having perfect attendance for over 27 years.  She supports Gene in his ministry as an ordained permanent deacon of the Catholic Church with 3 parish assignments.  Deacon Gene served as Rotary District 6360 Treasurer, 2016 to present.  Gene and Margie have six children, 12 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren   The Haas’ believe in “Service Above Self!”
