The Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial

Come learn about The Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial, the state’s official tribute to its contributions during WWII. You will hear about the plan to honor the legacy of Michigan’s Greatest Generation, the ingenuity and unprecedented production on the home front and to educate future generations of their selfless sacrifices and how the lessons learned are still relevant today. Spanning three quarters of an acre, it will be located at the northeast corner of 13 Mile Road and Woodward Avenue in Memorial Park, Royal Oak.

This interactive space will be part of the fabric of the community, inviting guests to return again and again to learn more about Michigan’s unique role in the allied victory in WWII.

Did you know that Belle Isle was the site of Iwo Jima practice landings? Or that the Chrysler tank plant produced more tanks than all of Germany? Or that Michigan had approximately 6,000 Italian and German POW’s here that worked in our agricultural fields?

These and other stories will be told at the memorial – come join us to learn how you can help make this a reality.
