Our Pontiac Rotary Club will be planting a tree in Pontiac's Rotary Park in memory of Past District Governor and friend, Janet McPeek.  This news was shared with Janet's husband and current AG, Phil McPeek at Thursday's Zoom meeting. We will gather in the fall to plant the tree and remember a Rotarian who truly lived the motto of "service above self."  Phil shared the following with us after the announcement:

Janet loved her Rotary life all the way up from club member to district and zone positions.  District Governor may have been her favorite position.  She loved getting out to clubs and helping solve district problems.  She was always terribly level headed and and able to see all sides of the problem.  She gave her best to Rotary and still made it to all of the kids events . The kids and I have always been very proud of Dr. McPeek even though we did have to share her quite a bit.

Right after Janet died her friend and fellow Rotarian Peggy Bartz wrote us a letter and described Janet.  " Quiet, soft spoken and careful.  Powerful in speech, and action, taking one step at a time.  I was aware that her life was not always easy.  Health issues that I had no clue about were a part of her life that she just didn't share.  She just kept being good.  And that - GOOD, we can all do in her honor.  Just be good."

Janet would love the idea of planting a tree; something fresh, green and growing.  There for the long haul.

Inspiring words about an inspiring woman.  We are lucky to be able to commemorate and celebrate her memory.
