Rotary to Assist at Shared Harvest Food PantryOur Club has assumed responsibility for food distribution at the Shared Harvest Food Pantry (Gleaners) one Saturday morning per month. A Brighton Rotary team of six members will work from 9 a.m. to noon on June 10, July 8, August 5, September 16, October 14, November 11 and December 23. This will be a great opportunity for members to not only give to the community, but also to get to know each other better and it's a project that will not require passing the can around the room for donations or bringing in anything to a meeting. It simply requires a donation of member time and energy.Sign up sheets will be available at regular meetings. Please consider signing up for one or more Saturdays.Gleaners representatives will be on site at the distribution center to train our volunteers. The long range plan is to train enough of us that we will eventually be able to do the distribution without their assistance.Beginning with January of 2007 we will be assigned a particular Saturday such as second Saturday of the month. Each participating group will pick up one of the fifth Saturdays when they occur. The facility is located on Sterling Drive off Dorr Road in Genoa Township.

What is Rotary anyway?![]() Some people call Rotary a club, a organization, a bunch of old men having lunch while writing a check to a good cause every so often to make themselves feel good. Wrong, Rotary is a way of life, a way to look at the world, a way to realize no matter how bad things get in your own life, there are people who have got it worse, and you have the power to help. |
