Announcements:

Happy Birthday to those celebrating April birthdays including:  Idil Berben, Mike Bourke, Dave Hartsook, Scott Griffith, Bill Markby & Cathy Riesterer!

The GSI Team from Japan arrived and Brian Parsons reminded members that on 4/29 at 7:15am , the Hartland Rotary Breakfast meeting will feature the Team at the Village Manor Restaurant Center .  Cost will be $10 for breakfast-see Jeremy Jones if interested.

The March of Dimes Walk at Kensington Metropark on 4/25  was a great success thanks to several Rotarians including Ed Bottum and Refrigeration Research, Katherine Copp and Brighton Animal Hospital, Jeff Toole and Farm Bureau Insurance, & Jane & Mike McManus and MicroWorks, who helped sponsor Checkpoint #4.  In addition, Bill Gartley, Bill Metz & Jeanne McMillan helped to staff the tent and distribute the ice cream provided by Tina Eichen & Dairy Queen and the pizza provided by Dave Plait & Hungry Howies.  Bill Anderson spearheaded this great Rotary effort.

Rotary Raiders will be working at Michelle Magley's  home in Hartland Township on May 1st as part of the Labor of Love work day.  An email was sent to those registered to work-if you did not receive yours, contact Piet Lindhout.

Two more host families are sought for next year's Rotary Youth Exchange students.  Note that to host a student, your family does not need to take the student on an exotic vacation and that the Club has budgeted a monthly allowance, approx $100, for the student. See Dora Lezovich if you know of a family that might appreciate the cultural exchange.

Cathy Riesterer reminded the Scholarship Committee of the meeting today to select students to interview.  Any additional members that would like to participate, please see Cathy.

President-elect Jeremy Jones sent an email survey to members on Friday and would like to know what events and Club activities each person is passionate about so that we can continue them and add new ideas.  Please respond this week!

Pam McConeghy and Anne Belser announced that the tickets ($20 each) have arrived for Lip Stync, Saturday, 5/22. from 7:30-9pm .  Sponsor opportunities are also available for donations ranging from $100+.  The sale of 900 tickets is targeted, and with the great performers in our community, the show is sure to be a sellout!  Call Pam McConeghy at 810-227-5086

Program:

Program Host Bill McCririe introduced Dariusz Wesolowski, Vice President and Director of Travel, from the Nomads air travel club who discussed "Get to Know-mads."  Established in 1965 and headquartered at Detroit Metropolitan Airport , the Nomads is a private 503(c)7, non-profit organization with approximately 5000 members.  They own a "flying clubhouse," a Boeing 727-200ER airplane to transport their members in style to exotic travel destinations.  Their 92 passenger, business-class seated "clubhouse" was designated the #2 best maintained aircraft in the USA -AirForceOne won top distinction.  A professional staff of five organize, plan, and support all trips.  Membership is open to those who register, pay a one-time-initiation-fee of $500 (although through 5/1/2010 the fee is reduced to $275), and pay annual dues of $16/person/month.  No long-term-contract is required, and a paid membership can include children under the age of 22 years.  Booking a trip is as easy as registering via mail or fax; paying a 30% deposit that is only charged when the trip is confirmed, and paying the balance 60 days before trip departure.  Trips can be long or short in duration and special "mystery" destinations can also be purchased.  For further information contact http://www.nomadstravel.org/ or (734) 941-8000.
