PROGRAM:  Bode and Finn Cooper, who are brothers and attend Hornung Elementary School, led the club in a fun and challenging Christmas-themed contest. One member called it the best program of the year.
GUESTS: Patrick Bourke; Heather Bullion, Week 2; Steve Monet, Week 3; Joe Bottum, Week 2; Mike Griffith; Anna Evers; Bode Cooper; Finn Cooper.
TWO TRUTHS AND A LIE: Mike Archinald told of being on a first-name basis with Dave Bing, Cazzie Russell and Pepper Johnson; of dating Amy Knight while both attended CMU; and of getting dental work done in what was then a Communist country. The date with Knight was the lie. Jeff Hayden claimed to have hiked the Grand Canyon up and down; running 20 triathalons; and Scuba diving in Florida and being surprised by 8-10 sharks. The Grand Canyon story didn’t hold up.
Next time (Jan. 5):  Michelle Bouhana and Tom Zizka.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
  • Maribeth Regnier reminds everyone that the Christmas Party is Monday, Dec. 7, 5:30-7:30 at the Johnson Center at Cleary University. Non-Rotarian adults pay 20 bucks, nine bucks for kids. It’s both an adult-friendly format (cash bar) and ugly sweaters are encouraged.

  • Bill Gartley coordinated the annual Christmas get-together of foreign exchange students, which included a fun night at Sky Zone. Bill said lots of Rotarians volunteered to provide much-needed transportation.

  • Peggi Mintz passed out the hot-off-the-press fliers for Dash or Crash, and reminded members that sponsorship opportunities are still available. On a related note, Peggy and her son and her daughter-in-law all took first place in their age brackets at the Christmas run in Fowlervlle.

  • Jane McManus reminded club that end-of-year donations can be made to the Brighton Rotary Foundation or to Rotary International.

  • The Brighton Rotary board of directors is exploring a new RI concept call satellite clubs, in which a sort of subset – at least 8 – could meet perhaps for short evening meetings. The idea is to attrack those interested in Rotary but who can’t make the regularly scheduled meetings.

  • Brian Donovan said the turnout for the last Rotary Raiders ramp of the year was awesome, completing the project in record time.

PROGRAM:
Abby Cooper introduced her sons, Bode and Finn, who led the club in an entertaining Christmas contest they learned at Hornung Elementary School where both are students. Club members balanced paper plates on their heads and then, sight unseen, attempted to draw Christmas-related items according to instructions from Bode and Finn. Once completed, members scored their artwork according to a point-system described by the brothers. A champion from each table was determined: Michelle Bouhana, Terry Gill, Scott Spitler and Jerry Hardesty. It was a great and enjoyable program.
50-50. The jackpot has grown to more than 800 bucks, but the ace of spades still eluded Joe Bottum, Dan Danosky, and Tom Coates (drawing for Bill Anderson).
