Rotary Fun Moment (Two Truths & a Lie): This week, Melanie Moses and Bill Anderson shared their fun facts. Bill Anderson began stating that he celebrated his 46th year on the “chain gang” working at Michigan Stadium, beginning the same year that Bo Schembechler starting coaching at the Big House. Bill’s three memories: 1) Halloween, 1976, in a game against Minnesota he was dared to weare a SuperWolf costume (consisting of a wolf mask, maze & blue shorts, blue tights, and a UM flag as a cape) from the previous night’s party to perform his job at Michigan Stadium. He also wore a t-shirt that said “Michigan, ABC & #1” which caught attention of ABC reporter Jim Lampley. Bill’s was featured along with someone in a pig costume during the game day score report; 2) October, 1979, UM v. IN in a game where Anthony Carter caught the long bomb from Johnny Wangler to defeat IN. Bill got caught in the celebration pile along with Butch Woolfolk and Anthony Carter; 3) August, 1986, Bill took his pregnant wife to Weber’s for dinner and met Bo, Millie & Schemy Schembechler while waiting for a table and eventually were invited to eat with the Schembechlers. Melanie mentioned that she hates football, so she was guessing when she selected #2 as being false. Bill said that #3 was false—he never got to eat dinner with Bo and his family.
Melanie’s three memories were: 1) she had the opportunity to be asked for advice (and gave it) from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and then received his blessing; 2) Melanie loves to hike and has traversed trails in many states, but she did walk from Phoenix, AZ, to Detroit, MI, once; and 3) in 1971 she performed the role of Chrissy from the musical Hair with the Great Lakes Touring Company along with Meatloaf. Melanie shared the song she sang to the delight of our members. Bill guessed that #3 was false, but Melanie said that #2 was a stretch because she learned to walk in the back seat of her parents’ car and spent the whole trip from AZ to MI practicing walking while in the back seat!
