Rachele Bhathena publicly thanked Jason Huntley for not only answering a question in her surprise visit to his office, but in providing “service above self” to assist her—living the 4-way test!.

 This Saturday, October 8th is the 75th Anniversary Celebration of our Club’s founding to  be held from 1pm-8pm on Brighton’s Main Street at the Classic Rocktober Fest. The focus is on children’s events from 1-5pm, with adult activities starting at 5pm.  A dunk tank to “Drown Out Polio One Day At A Time” will need additional volunteers especially a Michigan Wolverine fan.  Volunteers to staff many activities are need, such as Candy-for-a-Cause, Popcorn-for-Polio, and operating the videos of Polio Plus and Our Rotary’s Accomplishments. A Thank You card from the Lane Family was received expressing their appreciation of the Raiders Ramp that was built this summer for their family.

Piet Lindhout shared photos of the temporary ramp project for Marine Lance Corporal Phillip Stevens.  Well Done Raiders!!!

Piet also shared information about the Barnowski Family Benefit Dinner on Monday, 10/10/11, from 5-8pm at the Howell Opera House to help defray medical expenses for Don Barnowski, a receipient of a Raiders ramp build and bathroom remodel.  More information can be found via Facebook at “Dinner for Don”Barnowski Jr.

Golf News:  The Livingston Sunrise Club trounced the Brighton Club by 20 strokes at last Rotary Golf Challenge  at the Majestic.  $345 worth of greens fees were donated to the Raiders by the owner of the Majestic, so please be sure to thank him for his generous support when you arrive at the course!!!  Brian Wutz and George Moses have volunteered to award the traveling trophy to the Sunrise Club this week.

George Moses is riding 62 miles in the Howell Rotary’s 2011 Tour de Livingston fundraiser for United Way this Sunday, October 9th.  (After the ride, George will undergo surgical repair of his torn meniscus in the knee.)  Pledge sheets were circulated.  Choose a 10, 28, 38, 62 or 100 mile routeTour begins at Mt. Brighton with a buffet breakfast before the race.  Registration starts at 7am, with the course opening at 8am.  Cost is $30 in advance for adults, $12 for children 12 and under.  Lots of volunteer opportunities are available if you can help—last year 550 riders raised $20,000 for the United Way.  Contact www.TourDeLivingston.org or 810-494-3000 for more information.

Flyers about the Bonfire at Livingston Sunrise Rotarian Tom Archer’s house on 10/14 beginning at 6pm were circulated.  Always a fun event, and a chance to pumpkin shop at Dan Mayhew’s before the bonfire!

Save the date to attend the Friends of the Brighton District Library (BDL) Fall Book Sale on October 11-16 at the Brighton District Library.  Funds generated from this sale assist the Friends in contributing over three times the amount of money the BDL receives from the State of Michigan.

Program:

Program Host Terry Gill introduced his younger brother, Dr. Craig Gill, B.S., D.C., Chiropractor/Nutritionist with Brighton Alternative Health Care Solutions.  Dr. Gill discussed how the country is shifting to maintenance care medicine and approaching health care from a more holistic view.  He discussed how chiropractic care is not just adjusting bones, but providing balance to the nervous system. He discussed using metabolic DNA testing and blood analysis to examine nutritional needs and ways to address health issues.  Dr. Gill’s motto is “Change Your Health Before It Changes You.”
