Program:

Program Host Lori Lalama introduced Joan Meinke  and John Cauley from the American Red Cross who discussed how recent changes at the Red Cross will position the organization for the future.  The Red Cross has been experiencing a tremendous overhaul to consolidate the 650 independent chapters with local governing boards.  If this overhaul had not begun, most likely sufficient funds would not be available to support operations beyond five years.  Their goal is to build a sustainable fund based.  Seventy-one percent of the Red Cross workfoce are volunteers.  The three main fundraising activities for the Red Cross have been:  1) The United Way, but the economic landscape has changed as has the partnership funding formula; 2) Direct Mail, which generates many small gifts; and 3) Special Events, which is less effective in terms of staff involvement.  Their new focus is to contact major donors on a one-on-one basis to generate funds.  Special recognition was given to Lori Lalama for her participation on the Board of Directors of the Red Cross and to Scott Griffith for his leadership in chairing the Board of Directors.

Progressive 50/50 Drawing:    $90 pot in week 1, 52 cards remain.  Jeremy Jones drew the eight of diamonds; Jane McManus drew the jack of spades; and Scott Griffith drew the three of spades.
