Program:

Program Host Mitch Zoldowski introduced Sarah Neidert from the Brighton District Library (BDL) who discussed electronic business resources.  Sarah arrived in Brighton three years ago after working in the Birmingham, Michigan, library system and is the Web Librarian for BDL.  She focused her presentation today on the online business databases available for use by patrons, specifically:

  • Business and Company ASAP:  which contains information on companies, markets, and industries along with business and trade journals, newspapers, and company directory profiles with full text and images.
  • Business and Company Resource Center, which contains company and industry information, articles, publications and advanced search capabilities.
  • General Business File ASAP, which facilitates the analization of company performance and activity, industry events, and trends while also giving access to broker research reports.
  • Reference USA Business database, which contains a directory of companies grouped by genre/industry including a list of physicians and dentists, from US and Canadian companies.
  • Small Business Resource Center, which facilitates accessing information about starting, financing or managing a small business.
  • Value Line (Standard Edition), which contains access to stock and financial information for industries and specific companies.

Installed in the library is the software called “Business Plan Pro” which allows data to be imported for Microsoft’s Excel and encourages the creation and tracking of plan versus actual comparisons and to visually track your cash flow.  The Business Resource Center location within the Brighton District Library can provide lists of many freely available business websites that may be of interest.
