Rotary Fun Moment (Two Truths & a Lie):  This week, Bonnie Corrigan and Donna Craig shared their fun facts. Donna Craig said that the theme for her facts was that childhood games are dangerous!  1) In kindergarten, Donna played Kick-the-Can and fell from the front porch into the flower bed edged with angled bricks, splitting the back of her head; 2) in 2nd grade she played Hide-n-Seek  and her dungarees got caught while climbing over a fence causing her to fall and break her elbow; and 3) when she was 9-years-old, Donna and her brother were playing Cowboys-and-Indians and her brother was using a piece of rebar as a spear that landed on Donna’s shoe and pierced it.  Bonnie guessed that #3 was the lie, but Donna said that she has never broken a bone and that #2 was not true.
Bonnie said that her theme involved sports:  1) At BHS, Bonnie played basketball and was very good, especially at free throws; 2) she also played softball at BHS and primarily played pitcher, becoming a key reason for many wins; and 3) Bonnie used to ride her pet pig, and one day when taking the pig for a walk, a man stopped and wanted to buy the pig to make pork chops!  Bonnie ran home and didn’t take the pig for a walk on the road again.  Donna guessed that #3 was the lie, but Bonnie said that #1 was not true (she wasn’t very good at basketball…)
Next Week: Terry Gill and Mitch Zoldowski.

Henry Gaertner, a 7th grade student at Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran School, won the drawing to receive the first Academic Enrichment Scholarship worth up to $250 from the Brighton Rotary Foundation.  Henry was one of eight middle school students that participated in the SAT Practice Test on January 16th and is reviewing which enrichment program he will attend.

PROGRAM:
A speaker was not available today, so Mike McManus shared a Rotary Foundation video concerning the Gift of Rotary that discussed how the impact of Rotary is far-reaching, even when we don’t realize the full extent of our actions.  For example, when a Rotary scholarship helps to train a nurse that can help a sick child or when clean water in a village becomes possible because of a Rotary project.  The Rotary Foundation was launched in 1917 with a $26.50 contribution.  The first grant provided aid to disabled children, and now we are “this close” to eliminating polio!  The Rotary Foundation funds Peace Centers in many countries, vocational training teams, and International health, hunger, education, and humanitarian needs.  The goal is for Every Rotarian, Every Year to donate $100 per person to support our Rotary Foundation.

An update on the Top of the Mountain Dash or Crash was provided by the Executive Team.  The website is www.TopOfTheMountainDashOrCrash.com and all are encouraged to Google the address before going to the official website (it will help move us higher on the Google retrieval system).  If you register or volunteer by March 1st, a $5 discount from the registration will be awarded.  Piet Lindhout showed the revised course map with the new obstacles Hill Climb and The Crawl.  There will be tweaks to other obstacles, and the Kids Fun Run has eliminated the one mile run with a slogan of “Now More Grass Stains and Dirt.”  They are looking for a cleaning-type sponsor, e.g. Tide, dry-cleaners, for the Fun Run.  Rich Perlberg says 80 percent of the minimum sponsor goal has been reached, and they are 60 percent to the stretch sponsor goal.  Jeff Toole volunteered to sponsor the  Hill Climb, and the group is looking for other sponsors at $500 per obstacle.  The Committee is meeting every-other- Wednesday, so please email any ideas to the members.

50/50 Drawing:  Neither Joe Bottum, Mark Cook or Beth Walker were successful in locating the Ace of Spades to win the jackpot.
