Program:

Program Hosts Bill Anderson and Jim Barnas introduced Dave Dummitt, Senior Pastof at 242 Community Church. Dave moved to Brighton from Kentucky seven years ago to help start the 242 Community Church with services first held at Scranton Middle School for 500 people, and now held at the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts for 1200 people.  The name 242 is based upon Acts 242 that contains a description of an early church, and there is a campus in Ann Arbor and a partnership with a ministry in Haiti.  The 242 Community Church is renovating the former Brighton Athletic Club facility on Grand River.  They looked at how they felt their Church could better serve the community and developed the idea that providing the gift of a building to be used for the community would be most useful.  Jim Barnes and contracting Resources are managing the construction of the new facility which will include:

A café where people can gather;

A playscape for children that uses large railroad shipping crates for theme areas;

One-third of the building will be devoted to children, their education, and play space;

One-third will be devoted to a school for the arts—music, art & drama education;

A racquetball court will remain along with a gym and weight/fitness room;

A large indoor soccer field with artificial turf/rubber will be included that can be removed for basketball courts;

An 850-seat auditorium with moveable seating and a projector with a 32-foot screen will be used for Sunday services; and

An Indoor/Outdoor patio

They plan to create a separate support organization to manage the facility.  The aim is to have areas that will attract junior high and high school students.  Target grand opening date is scheduled for the end of August, 2012.

Progressive 50/50 Drawing $630 pot in week 7, 34 cards remain. Scott Spitler drew the queen of spades; George Moses drew the queen of hearts, and guest Fred Arthur drew the two of diamonds.
