These initiatives focus on building leadership skills, expanding educational opportunities, and instilling a sense of service in young individuals.
Rotary Youth Exchange
The Rotary Youth Exchange program is a cornerstone of our youth initiatives, providing students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in new cultures and perspectives. This year, the following students participated in the program:

Additionally, we had a special project to provide a wheelchair for Washington (Luanny)
Adventure in Citizenship
Four enthusiastic students from Burlington, including Matea, took part in the Adventure in Citizenship program. This initiative allows students to engage directly with the democratic process, fostering a deeper understanding of citizenship and civic responsibility.
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA)
Antonella represented our community at the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. RYLA is designed to recognize and develop the leadership potential of young people, equipping them with skills that are crucial for personal and professional growth.
Interact and Rotaract Clubs
Our Interact and Rotaract clubs have been instrumental in organizing and participating in community events such as the Burlington Santa Claus Parade. They also actively engage in grant writing to secure funds for various initiatives. The Burlington Central Interact Club, in particular, has shown remarkable dedication to service and leadership.
Promoting Education and Literacy
We believe in the power of education and literacy to transform lives. Our efforts in this area are diverse and impactful.
- McMaster Indigenous BursaryWe are proud to support the McMaster Indigenous Bursary, with Kyle being the first recipient. This bursary aims to support Indigenous students in their educational pursuits, helping to bridge gaps and create opportunities for success.
- Art Gallery of Burlington Children’s Programs The Art Gallery of Burlington's children’s programs continue to thrive with our support. These programs provide young minds with the opportunity to explore their creativity and develop an appreciation for the arts.
- Club Foundation Our Club Foundation plays a pivotal role in funding various educational and literacy projects. Through the foundation, we ensure sustained support for initiatives that align with our mission.
- Annual Support for Telling Tales Festival We proudly sponsor the Telling Tales Festival annually. This festival celebrates storytelling and literacy, offering a platform for authors, illustrators, and performers to inspire children and families.
- Headstrong Summit Our participation in the Headstrong Summit reflects our commitment to mental health education. This summit empowers youth to become leaders in mental health advocacy, promoting awareness and reducing stigma.

3 Entities
1. Club – Operations/Administration
- The Club is responsible for the overall operations and administrative functions necessary fto smoothly runthe organization's activities. This includes managing day-to-day operations, organizing events, and handling administrative tasks.
2. Trust – Charitable Fund
- The Trust is dedicated to managing and distributing funds for charitable purposes. It focuses on fundraising activities and ensures that donations are effectively utilized to support various community initiatives and projects.
3. Foundation – Investments for Scholarships
- The Foundation manages investments specifically aimed at generating funds for scholarships. It oversees the investment portfolio and ensures that the returns are used to provide financial support for educational opportunities.
Committee Structure
The organization benefits from a strong committee that oversees the operations of all three entities. The committee regularly reviews income and expenses to ensure financial stability and effective use of resources.

- Fundraising and Donations: These are the primary sources of income for the Trust. The committee actively engages in fundraising activities and encourages donations to support the charitable initiatives and scholarships.

Financial Adjustments
The committee has implemented several changes to improve financial efficiency:
- Reduction of Banking Fees: BThe committee has successfully reduced banking fees by negotiating with financial institutions
- E-transfers to the Trust: To streamline donations, e-transfers can now be sent to trustetransfer@rcbl.org.
-Lunch Payments via E-transfer: To simplify lunch payment members are encouraged to use e-transfer (etransfer@rcbl.org).
- Lunch Costs Review: Club services are currently reviewing the costs associated with lunches to identify potential savings.

The committee has been actively involved in various international projects aimed at improving the quality of life and providing opportunities for those in need. Key International Projects
1. Meals for Malawi
- **Background**: Surjit has a personal connection to Malawi, having lived there previously.
- **Project Description**: Establishing an architecture program with the assistance of Rotarians.
- **Impact**: This program aims to educate and empower local communities through architectural education and sustainable building practices.
2. Kenyan Scholarships
- **Project Description**: Providing scholarships to students in Kenya.
- **Support**: A total of 8 students are currently being supported, with Anita Mendiratta's charity funding 2 of these students.
- **Impact**: These scholarships enable students to pursue their education, thereby improving their future prospects and contributing to the development of their communities.
3. Mexican Cleft Palate Surgery
- **Project Description**: Facilitating surgeries for children with cleft palate in Mexico.
- **Impact**: These surgeries significantly improve the quality of life for the children, enhancing their ability to eat, speak, and interact socially.
4. Milton Oakville Burlington (MOB) Projects
- **Focus Areas**:
- Providing potable water.
- Offering training programs in Guatemala.
- **Impact**: These projects address essential needs such as access to clean water and vocational training, contributing to the health and economic stability of the communities.
5. Polio Plus
- **Project Description**: Supporting the global initiative to eradicate polio.
- **Impact**: This initiative aims to eliminate polio worldwide, preventing new cases and ensuring a polio-free future for upcoming generations.

Foundation Report
The Club Endowment Fund is seeking new board members to help oversee and manage its operations. This opportunity offers a smaller time commitment compared to other board positions, making it an attractive option for individuals looking to contribute without a significant time investment.
Financial Overview
The Endowment Fund operates on a self-sustaining model where dividends and interest generate more than $37,000 annually. With a balanced, fairly conservative investment portfolio, the fund maintains a consistent revenue stream.
Spending and Surplus
- Annual Spend: Approximately $31,000.
- Surplus:** The fund generates a surplus of over $6,000 annually, contributing to its growth and sustainability.
Fund Size and Purpose
- Total Fund Size: Over $700,000.
- Purpose:The endowment fund is specifically allocated for student support and is not intended for other projects.
Potential Increase in Payouts
Given the consistent surplus and the conservative growth strategy, there is a consideration to increase the payout amounts to support more students or provide larger grants. This needs careful evaluation to ensure long-term sustainability.
Historical Context
The Endowment Fund has been operational for 33 years, demonstrating a long-term commitment to supporting students and ensuring the fund's health and growth.
Future Vision
The foundation is exploring its future vision, which includes the potential addition of new scholarships and support programs:
1. Kenyan Scholarship: To introduce this scholarship, an amendment to the foundation's constitution is required.
2. Indigenous Award: There is a general need recognized within the foundation to support Indigenous students.
Challenges and Opportunities
Reaching Students in Need
Despite the availability of funds, there is a noticeable lack of motivation among students to apply for the scholarships:
- Current Applicants: Only 40 applicants this year.
- Potential Solutions:Increase outreach efforts to better inform and motivate students to apply for these opportunities.
Improving Application Rates
- Current Support: $5,000 from New Generations this year.
- Proposed Actions:Consider offering more grants or increasing the grant amounts to attract more applicants.
New Board Recruitment
The foundation aims to have a new board in place by the end of June. New board members will play a crucial role in addressing the challenges and driving the future vision of the foundation.
