-not a new Rotarian, but new to our club
Born on Jan 24, 1945 just before end of WW2. In Istria – peninsula across from Venice. There were human remains found there from over 10,000 years ago. Is now considered part of Croatia.
In 1955, his family lost their house and properties to Communist Yugoslavia. They were forced to move to Italy as refugees. They lived in unused army barracks for over 2 years, and his mother made arrangements for Aldo to attend a Boy’s college run by the Vatican. In 1957, they moved to Canada. He was 11 years old. He was Valedictorian in his graduating high school class in Chatham, Ontario. From there, he went to Ryerson, where he met his wife Hectorine, who sadly passed away last July. Aldo has one son, one daughter, and 4 grandchildren. He and his son formed their own construction company in 1991.
He was involved with Minor Hockey, Baseball, Soccer and was President of his local Kinsmen. He was asked to join Rotary about 15 years ago, and has been Club President twice, Chair of Bolton Rotary Ribfest, D7080 International Service Director twice and WASRAG charter member and WASH Ambassador.
He has travelled 6 countries and over 30 clubs while attending District Conferences, Conventions, Fairs and Summits and Rotary at the UN and at the Vatican.
Has recently reconnected with Barbara after dating her in High School in Chatham, and enjoying each other’s company again.
Aldo Moved to Burlington to be near his family, and his wife was being treated at Juravinski Hospital.
