  • What does he do for a living?
    • He is the Manager of Facility Services for HDSB (but he is retiring soon).
  • What family does he have?
    • He has a wife and a daughter, 4 half brothers and an adopted brother.
  • Where did he grow up?
    • Grew up in Burlington, first kindergarten class at Pauline Fisher PS.
    • Full circle as he helps to renovate there.
  • What is his Rotary highlight?
    • Ribfest setup last year, seeing behind the scenes
  • What are his hobbies?
    • Love motorcycle riding on his Honda 750 adventure bike
  • If he had a free plane ticket to go to anywhere in the world for a month, where would it be?
    • Austria - he has always wanted to visit there.
  • What is he most proud of?
    • Proud of himself for staying married for 33 years

Cheque Presentation to 

Joseph Brant Hospital

  • Brent Paszt - reminder to pay dues since club bills are triggered by RI on June 30

  • Brent Paszt - second reading of youth motions:
    • $5000 for RCBL Charitable Foundation
    • $8000 for AGB children’s program
    • $10,000 for McMaster Indigenous bursary
  • Brent Past - Great parade last weekend - disappointment that our club pulled out since it provides free advertising
  • Brent Paszt - the Pancake Breakfast July 1 is well staffed with volunteers
  • FIFA Fan Fest - we need more volunteers to help raise money selling beverages on July 9 from 12-9 in 2 shifts
  • Paul Harris Awards today - people who help our club, demonstrating Rotary ideals

 

  • Kale Black - enthusiasm, starting as high school coop at Burlington Green, leadership and making a difference. She is doing Eco studies at Aldershot HS, loves nature and devastated by the problems our environment faces. She watched compost loaded into truck at Ribfest felt relief of being able to do something to reduce our impact on the environment.

  • Beth & Jeannie Leishman - they have volunteered at Ribfest over the years, dedicated members of recycling team, they have been supervisors, and “embody service above self”. Their mission is reflected also in Scouts and their Church. They are the first followers influenced by others’ passions that resonate with them. It give them happiness in their hearts to help. The City of Burlington recognizes Ribfest as green event, others look up to our recycling.
  • Ade’s band, The Satellites have a release party at The Bloc Co on June 28, 7-10 pm.


 


Volunteering Opportunities!

Canada Day Pancake Breakfast at Spencer Smith Park

  • On July 1 from 7:30AM to 12:00PM, we are holding a pancake breakfast at Spencer Smith Park!
  • we need volunteers for setup, cooking, serving, greeting guests, and cleanup.
  • Whether you're a seasoned pancake flipper or simply willing to lend a hand, we'd love to have you join us.

FIFA Fan Fest on July 9th at Spencer Smith Park

  • Our Club will be running the Beer Garden, with all net proceeds going to our Club! We want to raise more money for our community, so please come out and help raise those funds!
  • There are two Shifts: 11:00AM to 4:30PM and 4:30PM to 10:00 PM.
  • Smart Serve certification is highly preferred. If you need to renew your Smart Serve (which you need to work the beer tents at Ribfest) you can find the renewal information here.

Classification Talk

  • Background - originally from Cameroon in Central Africa
  • Speak English and French, 265 dialects
  • She left Cameroon as it is politically unstable, resources are not balanced equitably - many people go abroad for a better life
  • She has one sister and four brothers
  • Family - soccer is a “second religion” in her household
  • Husband a coach for kids’ teams
  • When she moved to the US it was a cultural shock. In Cameroon they speak UK English and France French, so it was a challenge understanding the American accent.
  • There is no snow in Cameroon!
  • It takes a village to raise a child
  • Also, the food is different!
  • What she does - Studied nursing, sang in choir, supported the elderly in community - brothers encouraged her to take nursing since she has a caring heart
  • She has three sons and daughter (one of whom is a CEO and peacemaker)
  • She works for Blissful Hearts Homecare Solutions - saw a gap working in hospital or long term care, didn’t have time to listen, she knew that was for her.
  • In 2018 her mom was sick with a short time to live. She went back to Cameroon, heath care was not great, able to have her here and got support
  • She saw the support gap in her mothers support and wanted to give this to other families.
  • She loves bringing the culture of caring to Burlington and area
  • She lives by the belief that “When you are passionate then things just happen”.
