Occupation: He runs a consulting company for HR and Security.

Hometown: Scarborough, then St. Catharines, then Ottawa, then Burlington for 25 years.

Family: Married since 1999 to his wife Sylvie, father of two.

Best Rotary moment: Reaching out to clubs while travelling for work.

If you had a month off and a plane ticket to anywhere, where would you go? Scotland, to see relatives.

What are you most proud of? His two kids.

 

Happy Dollars and Travel Toonies!

  • Surjit Mendiratta - Happy to see leadership updates at Rotary International.
  • Marg Hayes - Had a great trip to the Netherlands, but a sad dollar for Ade's departure.
  • Ben Sinclair - his son Alex now has a walking cast for his broken leg. He is also celebrating a certain World Cup result.
  • Guest Lindsay Reynolds - Son Isaac will be returning home soon from RYE in Japan!
  • Mike Dybka - Canada Scotland Rotary Curling tour will be returning to Canada, with a stop in Burlington (November 15/16).
  • Brent Paszt - The pancake breakfast on July 1st went extraordinarily well. Also his daughter was in the latest City parade with the Teen Tour Band. And he got to see Lionel Ritchie live in Toronto.
  • Valarie Wafer attended the Rotary 2026 International Conference in Taiwan. She is now co-chair for the Rotary International PolioPlus Committee - dedicated to polio eradication. Her highlight was watching Malala Yousafzai and saying some kind words. Next stop: Geneva!

  • Guest Sheila Welham: Get your tickets to Lakeside Under the Stars and Lakeside a la Carte.
  • Brent Paszt: The Club Meeting next week will NOT be held at the Art Gallery, but will be a BBQ held at the gazebo in Spencer Smith Park with our guest being District Governor Uche Okugo.
 
Motions
  • Two motions from the Youth Committee, both passed:
    • $10,000 for the McMaster Indigenous Scholarship Endowment
    • $8,000 for the AGB Summer Camps



Volunteering Opportunities!

Presentation 
Ade Figus - Exchange Student 
Her last meeting before returning
 home to Sardinia
  • Ade arrived in Canada on August 22nd, 2025.
  • One of her first memories was taking a 24+ hour trip, then Will insisted on taking her to Tim Hortons.
  • Seeing rabbits and squirrels in the backyard was a new experience.
  • Early highlights include a Tiger Cats game and volunteering at Ribfest.
  • Favourite course was biology, including dissecting a dead rat.
  • She participated in a school musical during her first semester, which was the biggest time commitment at that time.
  • Spent Christmas in Ottawa with Marg and Tom Hayes.
  • She enjoyed the Canadian winter, although her hands kept turning blue or purple.
  • She thought Camp Wanakita was a good experience - but winter camping……..once was enough.
  • She joined a rock band called The Satellites.
  • She went to Mont Tremblant for March Break, also with Marg and Tom.
  • She has now made lots of friends from all over the world.
  • Her Prom and Graduation were also highlights of her time here.
  • Her best month was June, worst months were Jan/Feb (dark & cold).
  • What she'll miss the most: daily coffee, Lake Ontario, Toronto, her band.
  • She does not want to go back.
  • She promises to bring her family back here.
