We are excited to announce that an anonymous donor made a $15,000 gift to support this year’s Wine for Friends event, bringing the total amount raised to $40,000. It really shows how your Rotary inspires others to give!

 

Proceeds raised from Wine for Friends will support Joseph Brant Hospital’s Mental Health and Addictions (MHA) Redevelopment and Expansion Project. 

 

• The need for comprehensive, high-quality, accessible and timely Mental Health and addiction care has never been greater. 

• In any given year, 1 in 5 people in Canada will personally experience a mental health illness

• By age 40, about 50% of the population will have had or being living with a mental illness.

• The demand for MHA care right here in our community has never been greater.

• There is an urgent and growing need to redevelop our Mental Health and Addictions (MHA) program space to create therapeutic facilities that ensure dignified, respectful, person-centred experience.

 

JBH has launched their For All Minds Campaign to build modern MHA program facilities at JBH

 

• The For All Minds campaign has a goal to raise $20M in support of the redevelopment project (The total project is estimated to cost $55 Million)

• The time is now to build modern MHA program facilities at JBH that ensure dignified, respectful, person-centred care, support recovery, and improve patient outcomes.

• We are optimistic that we will receive government approval to proceed with the project in the spring of this year. The Hospital continues to work closely with our provincial government to move things forward

 

The three core elements of the redevelopment project include:

 

1. Inpatient Mental Health and Addictions Unit with a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) - the creation of a new, larger and modern Inpatient Mental Health and Addictions Unit within the North Tower at JBH:

2. Outpatient Mental Health Unit - a relocation of some of the Outpatient Mental Health Unit alongside the new MHA unit; and

3. Mental Health Day Hospital - the addition of a new Child and Youth Mental Health Day Hospital.

 

Highlights of the new MHA inpatient unit include:

 

• Addition of a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

• 100% private rooms

• Direct entry to a secure, controlled-access outdoor courtyard as an extension of the therapeutic environment

Possible Opportunities for Club Participation

1.       Breakfast at the Bistro - attend and/or volunteer

·         a monthly Saturday where 120+ guests are charged $6.90

·         They can use 6-12 volunteers from 7 am to 11 am after 21-Sep

2.       Dance night (new, monthly) - sponsor and/or volunteer (including Smart Service)

·         started this year, and the next one is 5-Apr.

·         They would need 2-6 volunteers.

3.       Monthly Supper Club socials (new)

·        themed event (next one is Ireland) and runs one Thursday a month, next one is 7-Mar, 5-8 pm.  A paid event (tickets are $20) and 10% of attendees attend for free through a  government grant 

4.       Any other licensed events – they can use people with Smart Serve.
