Bringing joy to those living in a shelter over Christmas

This is our 2nd year providing the residents of the Salvation Army Lighthouse Shelter with the spirit of Christmas.  12 members of the club take on the task of baking and shopping for the residents.  Beginning on December 15th and continuing until Christmas Day members bring a variety of items to the Shelter each day for the residents to enjoy.  Many members bake cookies, brownies and other goodies, while others shopped and provided socks, notebooks and pens, chocolates, clementines and pop.   Christmas Day’s delivery includes a donation from our club of a $10 Tim Horton gift card placed in a mug with a sleeve of hot chocolate and candy cane.  A donation is provided by Sew on Fire of handmade winter hats and a hygiene kit comprising of a toothbrush, toothpaste, washcloth, soap, shampoo, Q-tips and bandaids.
We feel this little gesture lets the residents know there are people who care about them.  Christmas can be a very sad time of year for many and we hope we have brightened this time of year for the residents.
